Can I plug this into my iPhone 3gs wall charger and charge the iPad 4?
I can charge my iPhone 5 with the iPhone 3gs wall charger just fine (or the computer). What I would like to do is use the old iPhone 3gs wall plug with this cable at work to charge the iPad 4. I would use the in the box one for home.

AnswerAfter receiving my lightning to USB cable, the answer is yes. With the 5W or the resident 12W wall charger any iPhone or iPad will charge as long as the cable from the wall charger to the product is the correct one (30 pin or lightning).

Answer
No.
The connector ends are different. The iPad 2's still use the cables with the old 30 pin connectors. The new iPads and the new iPhone 5's use these new Lightening cables that just have a tiny little plug. Same voltage and everything, just a different connector end.
There are adaptors that allow users of new ipads or even iphone 5's to still connect to old chargers, but nothing that works backwards like you ask. Why in the heck would it make a difference? Why would you want to go backwards?- Answered by Madonna J from Austin

How long is this cable?
I used to have a 2m 30pin connector which was a decent length for a phone charger but now I'm stuck with this short one! When I used the old 30pin connector it could reach from the wall plug between my desk and bed to use on both but now I have to charge my brand new iPhone5 on the floor which is as you can imagine, not very safe!

Best AnswerThis cable is the same length as the cables shipped with previous iPhone models, 3.5ft.
I've had trouble with the length of these cables in the past too. What I've found to work the best a cheap $5 USB extension cable from Amazon and it's worked great ever since.- Answered by Kyle T from El Campo

Do you think this lightning cable would work with my 4s's car charger USB port, or would I have to wait for a dedicated iphone 5 car charger?

Best AnswerWorks with my existing car charger. All I need to do is to use the 30-pin to Lightening adapter or the charging/syncing cable that comes with the iPhone 5

If used to connect to my car (Chevy Volt), can I control iPod functions?
The Chevy Volt does not use Bluetooth for music functions, just for calls. The USB charging cable on previous iPhones is connected to a USB port in the car. This allows album cover artwork to appear on the car's touchscreen and allows the driver to select songs, albums, playlists, audiobooks, shuffle mode, fast forward, rewind, skip, etc.
I am trying to determine if the cable that comes with the iPhone 5 will allow the same sort of control. It appears the Lightning to Dock Connector won't allow iPod functions of the iPhone to be controlled (*iPod Out not supported).- Asked by Richard S from Colleyville

Best AnswerI got so many conflicting answers, I went ahead and bought an iPhone 5. It works exactly as the iPhone 4S did. When connected with the USB/Lightning cable, the iPod functionality of the phone can be controlled by the touchscreen of the Chevy Volt's audio system or the steering wheel controls. This includes displaying the album artwork on the touchscreen. The phone functions are connected to the car via BlueTooth and can be controlled by touchscreen or voice command (once initiated by the phone button on the steering wheel).
I am very satisfied with the performance.- Answered by Richard S from Colleyville

Is the new iPhone 5 lightening cable the same length as the other one? Or is it longer?

AnswerThis cable is the same length as the 30-pin dock connector cables included with previous models of the iPhone, iPad, and iPod. If you find it to be too short, I've found a cheap $5 USB extension cable (you can find them on Amazon) to work perfectly.

Will this support iPod out?

Best Answer"iPod Out" is an audio/video technology developed for certain cars whereby the iPod's native interface is displayed on the car's display. This mode involves sending a video and an audio signal through the 30 pin connector. This feature is unavailable with the lightning cable.
Most cars display their own interface for interacting with music. Those cars will continue to work as before.- Answered by William I from Portland
