Questions & Answers for Apple USB SuperDrive

I would not advise against using this on its side, there could be issues with the disk spinning and perhaps the mechanism been unable to provide the stability it needs whilst spinning.

I have my USB Super Drive on the foot/base of the stand on my new iMac and its a really good place for it I find, its within very easy reach, also it doesn't look out of place either.

Yes it does - You can change the region up to 5 times (then it will be stuck forever at the 5th!)

No. The super drives only work with computers that do not have a superdrive. It does say iMac's but they need to update that to say 2012 iMacs. You either need to fix your superdrive or get a 3rd party one.

Only works on the Macs that do not have a built in SuperDrives.

You set the region when you first insert the disc, you can change it three times.

The USB Superdrive does not support the iPad because it was
only designed to be used with the mac mini, macbook pro with retina display,
and macbook air.

it has no storage, as it is an optical drive used to burn media, like CDs and DVDs. you can backup your data on those, but you cannot save anything on the superdrive itself, as it is not a hard disk, it is used to burn media only (also to read media and install apps from there)
