Answer
Yes, it can burn all types of CDs and DVDs (not sure about DVD-RAMs, but those are not very much used anyway). You can use iTunes' internal burning facility or a third party software, like Roxio's Toast Titanium

Does the SuperDrive work with games as well as DVDs?
- Asked by Louis E

Answer
Most games come either on CD's or DVD's. Either way, I can guarantee the SuperDrive will work with your game. Although, you should make sure that your Mac's specs match the requirements listed on your game's packaging. If your game doesn't work, most likely it will be because your computer did not meet the minimum requirements, and not because the SuperDrive wasn't able to play it.

Will the Apple USB SuperDrive work with Windows 7 installed via Boot Camp?
I plan to purchase the 2012 27" iMac which has no optical drive. I have Windows 7 on DVD and wish to Bootcamp a partition of Macintosh HD.
Once I start up my new iMac in Windows 7, will this optical drive work for it or will I have to purchase a PC USB CD/DVD drive?
The requirements state that you need a mac, but not OS X. Thanks.- Asked by Michael O from Oxnard

Hi
I have tried to use superdrive with new imac 2012, ieOSX 10.8.2
it works perfectly in mac but in windows 7 it is not recognized it shows in device manager as a GX40N USB drive but with a yellow blob.
I have been told it is because win7 needs to be 64 bit on imac but the driver required needs to be 32 bit. I have no idea if thats correct but be assured I have tried everything I know to correct it but nothing as yet- Answered by Roy N

Want to create a wireless network, therefore, I would like to somehow plug the superdrive to a usb hub that can be reached wirelessly. Can it be done?
My thing is to create a wireless network where I can plug all the devices such as printer, superdrive, external hard drive to a hub that can be accessed wirelessly....so far I know that my printer can be thru the Airport express, however, I dont know if it can be done with the superdrive and the ext Hard drive. It would be so cool and super easy if this can be done so I can just roam around my house with my Macbook air, sit and work on my mac mini and just lets say play a movie thru mirroring on apple TV by wirelessly using the superdrive instead of having to plug it to the macs...am I too far advenced for this technology or is this just wishful thinking....???

Does the Apple USB SuperDrive use the USB 3 protocol?
- Asked by Zab L from Fort Lee
- Nov 11, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
the superdrive uses the USB 2.0, but it's anyways more than you need when burning a CD / DVD, due to burning restrictions concerning media speed (for example, you cannot burn a DVD at very high speeds, and the highest speed at which you can burn a DVD is way below USB 3.0 data transfer speed, so you don't need it anyway). hope that helps :)

Will this work with the upcoming iMac?
The new iMac that's due out in the coming months does not have an optical drive and I was just wondering if anyone knows whether this drive is the solution for those of us who still require CD/DVD burning ability. Cheers.

In the uk I've just been into PC World (biggest computing retailer on the high street) who categorically tell me it will work; their staff have been trained by Apple on this. They referred me to the new iMac info on line, look where they describe the rear sockets , USBs and its states you can use these for your peripherals eg SuperDrive. I'm assured by this otherwise I was going to grab an old machine!!

Is this exactly the same as the Superdrive that came out for the Macbook Air? WIll my old Superdrive work exactly the same as this new one?

Answer
Based on the information released by Apple, Yes, it is Pretty much the same thing. the Only difference that can be observed from going through the Documentations available is that the "New" Superdrive, formerly called Superdrive Air, can not be classified with the term AIR any longer as it is Now Compatible with the MacBook PRO as well ( though ONLY the Newer RETINA Display Model.) hence the NAME Change.

USB 2.0, but the speed of USB 2.0 is much more then you need due to the read/write restrictions of DVDs/CDs.
