Is this incompatible with MagSafe Airline Adapter?
The compatibility list does not list MagSafe Airline Adapter. Is it obsolete now?

Best AnswerUnless someone has actually tried it and has it working, I have plugged this MagSafe 2 converter into my Apple Airline Adapter and plugged it in (even to the lighter in my car) and while the green light comes on and it looks like its giving power to the laptop, the laptop (in my case, a MBP 15 Retina) does not get power. My older MBP 13 got power (didn't charge the battery) but at least it got power. But the MBP 15 is not getting enough power from a car lighter or an airplane to even power the laptop, the laptop continues to run on battery. I'm now in search for a 3rd party solution.

Can I use the converter with a Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapter
I have a MacBook Pro and several Apple 60W MagSafe Power Adapters. I have just ordered a 13" Macbook Air, can I use the 60W MagSafe Power Adapters plus a MagSafe to MagSafe 2 Converter with my Macbook Air?
I would have thought so but on the product info page for the Converter it shows compatibility with the following adapters:
Apple 45W MagSafe Power Adapter
Apple 85W MagSafe Power Adapter- Asked by Antony D

Best AnswerYes this works. I've been using this adapter with my old 60W MagSafe and the new 2012 Macbook Air without problem.

MagSafe to MagSafe2 & rMBP - Does it charge the rMBP while in use?
Equipment: 2012 rMBP, 2008 23" Cinema Dislay, MagSafe to MagSafe2 adapter.
Tonight I hooked up my retina macbook pro to my cinema display via the MagSafe to MagSafe2 adapter and noticed that while the rMBP received power, it wasn't charging the battery while I used the computer.
I've read various reports online about the MacBook air being able to receive both power and battery charge simultaneously, probably because it's power needs are 45w compared to the rMBP's 85w.
My experience so far says that the MagSafe to MagSafe2 adapter will NOT charge a rMBP while it's in use. Is this correct?- Asked by Michael M from Highlands Ranch

Best AnswerI am not a Genious Bar Apple employee but I do own a 13" MacBook Air, the 13" MacBook (Mid 2005), 15 inch MacBook Pro (Mid 2008), 13" Macbook Pro (Mid 2011) and two White mid 2006 MacBooks-- Just to name a few
The air requires 45 watts, MacBooks require 60, and the 15"/17" Pro's require 85 watts.
Summary:
45w Megsafe Air charger will only charge the Air although a higher watt charger will charge it as well
60 Watt Mega safe. Charger that comes with the all 13" MacBook's and Pros are as well as the air
Whilst the The 85 watt Megasafe charger is intended For Macs 15" & 17"; it is my charger of choice b/c it charges all Intell based Macs including the air- Answered by Joseph A from Livonia

The Mag Safe Plug for the Air is different than the MBP. Will this adaptor work on the MBA
- Asked by Mike M from Uniontown

Best AnswerAlthough I don't own one (yet) from looking in to this the answer seems to be:
- Yes, this will work if you have an old MagSafe power adapter for a MBP and want to use it to charge a computer using the newer MagSafe 2 port
- Using a higher rated power adapter is NOT a problem - will only supply the power that the computer connected needs, so no damage, no faster charging than normal
- Using a lower rated power adapter IS a problem as it will not supply enough power

Will this allow me to use my old MagSafe model A1222 Adapter with the new Retina Mb Pro? Thanks!
Just want to be sure it's not too old to power the new model.
- Asked by Matt R from San Diego

AnswerYes it will, the A1222 is the 85W model which is the power needed to charge the 15" model MacBook Pro (Retina and Non-Retina). With this you'll be all set!

Will it be faster?
MagSafe 2 has 85W as opposed to Magsafe's 45W.
I assume this means MagSafe 2 chargers will charge quicker?
If so, using the adapter on the lower one (45w) will be slower?
Thanks- Asked by Loic V

Best AnswerThe converter doesn't change your charging speeds at all, it just allows you to connect your old MagSafe cord to the new MagSafe 2 plug.
Obviously a 45W will be slower than a 85W in terms of charging speeds. Just expect to see the same speeds with or without the converter.- Answered by Josh W from Kalamazoo

Which end is which?
There is a standard for describing electrical connections that is not used here. For 115 V AC, on the end of a cable one plugs into an outlet is a MALE connector. The outlet is a FEMALE connector. Is this gizmo a MALE MagSafe2 and FEMALE MagSafe1, or is it a MALE MagSafe1 and FEMALE MagSafe2. I think it is the former, but it's hard to be sure from the description.
MALE MagSafe2 and FEMALE MagSafe1 would allow charging of a newer computer with an older power adapter.
MALE MagSafe1 and FEMALE MagSafe2 would allow charging of an older computer with a newer power adaptor.
Each task is going to be desired by some users. Why is there only one kind of adapter?- Asked by William P from Seattle

Is it better to get the adapter or just buy a new Magsafe 2 power supply?
I've got a brand new 2012 Macbook Air. Given my travels, I definitely need an extra power supply. I have some extra original Magsafe supplies (85W). I'm trying to decide if it will be better to get the adapter or get a new power supply.

Best AnswerMy advice would be to buy one of these due to the extreme difference in cost. Use one of your old chargers plugged in to your desk at home (or wherever you normally charge at home) with this adapter.
Save your new adapter for "mobile" use... take it with you when you travel.
I have my old, original magsafe adapter that came with my Jan 2006 macbook pro plugged in at my desk at home. It's lasted so long simply because it stays in that one location and never moves. So leave your old charger at home with the magsafe adapter since the old one is more likely to fail if you continue to use/abuse it (simply because it's older).- Answered by Steven E from Jericho

Might be a "duh" question, but it wouldn't work on a 2008, 17" MacBook Pro would it???
Somehow the magnetic head of my 85W (model A1222) power adapter tore. It will charge but I have to jiggle it a bit to stay. I was hoping the MagSafe 2 converter would fit this particular portal.

Best AnswerNo, that won't work. The converter only connects the fatter, shorter "old" style mag safe connector to the newer, thinner "new" style.
Breakage of the type that you described is common. Apple has some kind of special campaign -- google "apple magsafe replacement" and the link -- to Apple's support website, which link I am not allowed to paste into this message -- will be displayed.- Answered by Kevin W from Hendersonville

Can I use this mag safe converter with a thunderbolt 27 inch display and my new mac air?
I have a 27 inch thunderbolt monitor and the power cable doesn't fit into my new mac air. I saw this mag safe converter and was wondering if I can use it to connect my mac air directly to my monitor.

Best AnswerYes, you just attach the converter to the power cable from your Thunderbolt monitor. Then you will be able to connect your MacBook Air to your monitor.
