It is all one piece. If you already own a Smart Cover, you cannot interchange that cover with the one built into the Smart Case
No magnets in the back to hold the cover "open".
Cover does not lay flush with iPad - the edges of the case are raised a bit.
Very poor design on the edges. Sharp, and very uncomfortable to hold.- Answered by Jeff M from Phoenix

Is the volume lower because the speaker grill is kinda hidden?
I noticed, while watching some unboxings, that the speaker grill is kind of hidden because of the smart case, and I just wanted to know if that changed the volume in any way for the iPad.

will it protect my ipad in my really densly packed bag with books?
and my case right now, the screen cover slides around in my bag and doesn't stay on the screen so i get wasted battery power

Answer
The Smart Case probably wouldn't be your best option. It's fairly soft and pliable, and doesn't reinforce the iPad in any way. You might want to look into heavier-duty cases. I had a BoxWave case, and it was really sturdy and padded yet didn't add much thickness. I got a Smart Case instead because I needed to remove the iPad frequently, and once I got the iPad inside the BoxWave case, it was really difficult to remove.

Laser engraving is putting messages into the back of the case. Currently with most iPods and iPads you can get the back engraved with your name or a message. I see it as a theft deterrent because it would be very hard to sell a iPad that has someones phone number or name engraved on the back.

is it durable
how sturdy is the material
- Asked by Andrew L from Encinitas
- Jun 11, 2012

Answer
Very sturdy and well made. There are some covers that are like leather book-covers that are probably tougher, but the smart-case meets my wife's and my needs perfectly. iPad fits very securely into the Smart Cover. Any issues with iPad being "loose" may stem from having purchased a counterfeit product.

Yes, you can use it with any case, the keyboard is Bluetooth so yes. But this case doesn't have a place store it. So you will have to carry it separately.

Does the case help hold the iPad in place in your lap?
I'm wondering if the material on the back of the iPad case provides some friction so that it will rest in your lap without your having to hold it. I really like the smart cover but the biggest hassle of using an iPad while reading in the chair is having to hold it continuously.
- Asked by Scott S from Thomasville
- Jun 11, 2012

Answer
The cover is definitely more grippy than the metal back of the iPad. I'm wearing jeans, and the iPad stays in place on my lap with the cover on.

Does the Smart Case have an extra magnet to hold the cover in place on the back? The Smart Cover does not hold very strongly when in the back.
The original Smart Cover, when wrapped behind the iPad display, doesn't hold in place very well. I use a third-party case, with an extra magnet, to hold the Smart Cover. I was hoping the Smart Case had a similar magnet.

Answer
No, it does not.
It just flaps around, not being held in place.

Does the iPad slip out of the case when holding the ipad from the edge?
- Asked by Paul S from Bronx
- Jul 25, 2012

Answer
No, the iPad is inserted by flexing the corners and popping it in place, so holding it by the edge should have no effect.
