Do I have to buy any cover when purchasing an iPad2?
When I visited an Apple store, they say if I want to buy an iPad2, I HAVE TO buy the smart cover as well, but I don't really like to buy a cover right now. So is that mandatory??

Best Answerthat is strange. I ordered directly from the Apple site and just received my iPad a few days ago. Today, I did purchase the smart cover as I want to protect my investment. I found a BoxWave back that is designed to be used with the smart cover.

AnswerMy cover, purchased in May 2011, has not been functional in the upright position since December 2011 due to demagnitization. This occured under normal, albeit frequent, use. I love my iPad2 but the Smart Cover was poorly designed.

Best AnswerYES, if slimness is a deciding factor. NO, if protection is the main concern. The iPad smart cover only COVERS the front, not the back. It does not PROTECT the device from potential scratching. When placed in a purse or bag the cover may be pushed down therefore "waking" the iPad unless completely turned off.
