Best AnswerNo it does not because there are magnets in the smart cover that hold it to the iPad and the iPad 1 does not have the magnets inside of it to keep the smart cover on

Is there a cover available for the iPad 1 st generation

Best AnswerThere is not a cover but there is a case that does pretty much the same thing. Just make sure if you get the case that you do not buy the smart case because that will not work with the original iPad.

can you use a smart cover with an Otterbox
I am wondering about getting some additional cover to go with my Otterbox, so that the screen is covered. I carry the iPad around with the Otterbox, and dust gets in between the front of the Otterbox and the screen.

WillI I be able to plug the iPad2 into the dock with the smart cover in place?
- Asked by Michael S
- Aug 1, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes, it will fit, but the cover does not sit flat against the front of the iPad 2 because the dock has a small lip at the front which gets in the way. So you have to move the flap out the way a little, which means turning off the iPad 2's cover auto wake/sleep feature. But at least you don't have to take off the whole cover...

Can it fold back to protect the back of the iPad?
- Asked by Lwiding V from Bronx
- Mar 11, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answeryes, but remember that the folded over cover is the side facing the glass when folded back, so don't place it on very messy surfaces the kids just put jam or paint on, as that will get transferred to the screen when folded shut.

does it stand in portrait?
If you're using an app that requires portrait - cookbook for example. Will this hold the ipad in portrait orientation?
- Asked by Daniel C
- Nov 30, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerTechnically, no -- the smart cover does not support portrait orientation. However, you can still prop your iPad up in portrait view by detaching the cover from the iPad and leaning the iPad against the triangular folded smart cover. Unfortunately, you won't be able to adjust the angle very much.

Does the Polyurethane or microfiber side face down when used as a stand? In the picture on the apple website, the microfiber faces down.
This would require a user to not just flip the cover back and fold into a stand, but to take the magnetic hinge off, rotate it, reattach, then fold it. The microfiber would of course pick up any dirt from the surface of the table/desk. This can't be right, but the direction of the folds on the product info page shows it this way.

AnswerThis is correct the smart cover does have the microfiber facing down and it doesn't require any you to reattach it because the microfiber faces the iPad and you simply just fold it into the triangle shape and your done. Now you would think that anything on the table would attach to it but I have found that the smart cover doesn't normally pick up anything from the table.

Does the the smart cover magnetically hold to the back of the ipad 2 while in use?
- Asked by Peter A from Bushland Beach
- Jun 12, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerNo the back is not held magnetically on the back of the iPad 2 while in use. Me personally, when I need to use the iPad I simply fold the Sc in half and hold it to the back. Think of itmas rolling up a magazine. My method actually allows you to have a better grip and you will hardly know that it is there. Buy it and try itmout, the worst thing that could happennismyou return it but this is the best way to guage whether you would like it or not.

Does this magnet cover demagnetize credit cards or hotel keys?
- Asked by Laura Jean C from Leland
- Apr 8, 2011

Best AnswerAny magnet has the potential to interfere with a credit card strip. To be safe I would keep your credit cards away from the right side of the smart cover where the magnet resides.
