is lion available in a family pack?

Best Answer
The licensing on Lion is like that for other App store software: you can install and use it on any computer you personally control. Basically, if you have an account on the computer for which you have an AppleID, you can install Lion on the computer.

Can I upgrade straight from Tiger to Lion using the USB?
- Asked by Anna W from Brooklyn
- Sep 3, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
If your Mac came with Tiger there is a better than even chance that it doesn't even support Lion. Only Macs released in early 2007 (and the very first Mac Pro from 2006) are old enough to have come with Tiger, and "new enough" to support Lion.
Post another question identifying your exact Mac (preferably the model number if you can find it on the label) and someone will tell you if it will be supported.
And the answer, by the way is, no, you can't do a straight upgrade unless you already have Snow Leopard. Everyone else will need to either do each upgrade (Leopard, Snow, then Lion) OR backup, erase, do a clean install and then restore your data. Time Machine + Migration Assistant is generally what you use in that situation.- Answered by Daniel P from South San Francisco

Do you still need to upgrade to snow Leopard before upgrading to Lion with the USB Thumb Drive?
- Asked by Marco T
- Aug 17, 2011

Best Answer
Legally, yes, according to the OS X Lion Software License Agreement (part below) you need to have Snow Leopard license to purchase Lion, this is why it is cheaper. However what you download from the App Store and what is available on the thumb drive are considered "full versions". For example, I downloaded Lion from the App Store and burnt it onto a thumb drive myself. Then I did a "clean install" (or format and install) on my MacBook.
The OS X Lion Software License Agreement allows you to install and use the software for your personal, non-commercial use on all the Macs you own or control that are running Mac OS X Snow Leopard or Snow Leopard Server (a Mac Computer). Commercial enterprises or educational institutions can install and use one copy of the software for use either a) by a single individual on each Mac Computer that the enterprise or educational institution owns or controls, or b) by multiple individuals on a single shared Mac Computer that the enterprise or educational institution owns or controls (for example, in a resource center or library). You can also use the software in accordance with the terms of a volume or maintenance license (purchased separately).- Answered by Sam O from Bathurst

will lion support appleworks 6
- Asked by Richard B from Rogersville

Best Answer
As a supplement to the previous responders, if you have created a lot of AppleWorks documents over the years, you may be able to open, edit and resave them with iWorks' Pages, only if you were using the AppleWorks 6.2.9 version. A downloadable AppleWorks 6.2.9 update can be found on Apple's Downloads website, if needed. You would have to open each file and resave them in the updated AppleWorks 6.2.9 format to open them in Pages.
When you open an AppleWorks document with Pages, the file will be converted to a Pages document. You can choose to save the Pages version, or not, when you close it. Either way, the original AppleWorks file remains unchanged. You may want to start converting all of your AppleWorks files or only do them as needed. You can also use "Save As", within Pages, to save a file as a Microsoft Word document, if you need the file converted in that format. Good luck!- Answered by David H from Hampden

Is it possible to upgrade straight from Leopard to Lion using this product?
- Asked by Brent B from Blayney
- Aug 16, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
You cannot upgrade your existing installation, apps and user data intact, from Leopard - but you can erase & install a fresh copy of Lion using it. I suspect the Migration Assistant would have no problem migrating settings over from your old install if you were to, say, make a bootable backup of the drive elsewhere first, but I haven't done that. Migration Assistant has traditionally been more "forgiving" about the source data than actual OS install.

How long does it take to download Lion?

Best Answer
Depends on your connection. Its about 3.7GB so on a normal 8Mbit broadband connection it would take about 1 hour and 20 minutes to download if you weren't using the connection for other things. Even on the slowest broadband connection in the uk it would be done within 18 hours (512Kbit).

Answer
you need OSX 10.6.6 minimum in order to make use of the USB. It contains the same bits that you can purchase from the Mac AppStore inside 10.6.6 and higher.
Lion is only a Upgrade, no Full License. So Snow Leopard ( 10.6.x ) is definately needed. If you are at 10.5.8, then you have Leopard . Snow Leo starts at 10.6 and can be freely updated to 10.6.8 via Apples Software Updater. MacAppStore was not included in 10.6.0 to 10.6.5, first in 10.6.6. Lion also includes it, because Apple will sell their software only via this channel.
Make also sure to have the correct hardware, a Intel Core2Duo ( not a Core Solo or a Duo without the "2" ) plus 2GB of RAM memory.
Snow Leopard DVDs can be ordered via Apple Store online. If you don't find it there you can call up Apple and ask. I am sure they have it in stock.- Answered by Sascha J

You can burn the Lion ESD file to a thumb drive for installation on other computers. This will save bandwidth and improve your installation time substantially.

There is currently no USB thumb drive for OS X Lion Server. Lion Server is a separate download from Apple. Just buy it on the Mac App Store and install it on as many computers as you like.

Will Microsoft Office 2004 for Mac run on OS X?

Best Answer
If you are running MS Office 2004, you are also running some version of OS X.
Your Office 2004 will run on OS X 10.4 untill OS X 10.6.8, the latter being the latest version of Snow Leopard.
If you want to upgrade to OS x 10.7.x, called Lion, your Office 2004 won't work any longer.- Answered by Vagn J

There's only a few ways to do it.
All of them require you to perform a backup of you're personal documents!
1. Restart you're MAC and press the "ALT" key, until the screen shows two drives. One represents your hard drive (with the OS installed and you're personal documents), the other represents the repair disk utility (that allows you to erase or re-install the OS). Select the "Repair Disk Partition". Then re-install Lion. (This partition works the same way a OS Install DVD would work).
2. You could buy the Lion OS Thumb USB Drive, from the Apple Store. Connect the USB to a USB port, then boot you're MAC from it (once agin, press "ALT", and then select the USB drive on the screen). It works just like a OS Install DVD.
Once you have it remember once this: choosing the second option will have a small difference! When you install the Lion OS using the Thumb USB Drive, you won't create a "Repair Disk Partition". this means that every time you decide to erase you're HD, you'll need the USB Drive you bought!- Answered by José C from Rio Tinto
