How do I extend Time Capsule's range? Is there a gizmo? I'm a Mac man.
The walls of my old house are very thick and the wi-fi signals reach no further than the office and kitchen.

Can different security protocols be used on the two bands? E.g. WPA-AES on the 5Ghz and WEP on the 2.4Ghz band? thanks!
I have one wireless device (Nabaztag) that only works on 802.11b and only WEP security, a desktop wired via ethernet, a Macbook Air and a laptop PC. I don't want my whole network to be slow (WEP slows things down a LOT compared to WPA-AES) and insecure, so dual band could be ideal - if I can run this one gadget on WEP/2.4Ghz and the computers on WPA/5Ghz. thanks :)

If you do not already have internet service setup at your location, a modem or gateway device connected to Time Capsule by Ethernet cable will be necessary to access your ISP's service.

Can I make a backup of my TimeCapsule backup?
The issue I'm wanting to avoid is loss of data if I lose both the computer and the Time Capsule (i.e. fire or theft). So can I attach an external hd to the Time Capsule and set it to make backups of the Time Capsule backup. I would then rotate external hard drives, keeping one locked in a fireproof safe or off-site. Or is there another way to achieve this?

Since you can not Time Machine a Time Machine, you could not do this using Time Machine, but can easily use your Mac's Disk Utility "Restore" function to clone an exact copy onto an external HD.
I would prefer to use Disk Utility "Restore" to clone a Mac's entire internal HD directly to a FireWire external, rather than use USB external - FireWire is MUCH faster if you have it on your computer (some Macs don't have FireWire).- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

My MacBook Pro has Time Machine in the dock & I have an Airport Extreme. Is Time Machine the same as Time Capsule? Is Time Cap already on my MacBook?
Sorry, I am a novice obviously. My Mac needs to be repaired and I'm trying to find a way to backup my Mac before bringing it in. I keep reading about Time Capsule but see a lot of negative reviews. I hate to buy it esp. if I already have it. Thx!

Can I plug a US bought Time Capsule 1T into the UK mains?

Answer
Yes. Like all computer products nowadays, the power supply is "autoranging". Thus all you'd need is a U.K.-to-U.S. adapter, or preferably, a standard "figure-8" replacement cord.

My 250GB G5 (backed up to 1TB ext hard with time machine) is now full. Can i use TC to expand diskspace and leave time machine on existing drive?
I have an imac and macbook pro both backed up thru time machine to a 1TB Western Digital Mybook external hard disk, connected via firewire to the imac. However the hard disk on the imac (250gb) is now full and the macbook will be full soon. I would like to free both up by using a 1TB Time Capsule as my central hard disk, connected wirelessly to imac and mackbook if possible. How do i do this without disturbing the current time machine set up. Or can i just plug the Time Machine external drive into Time capsule and continue without loads of configurations??? I can't erase the time machine because there is important data on it which was deleted from the imacs hard drive. Can anybody suggest a solution to set up a home network which optimizes the disk space, incorporates printer and remote access to data which is all backed up.

Answer
You can't do either easily. Once the data is on the TC, Time Machine cannot back it up.
Plus, note that Time Machine will, sooner or later, DELETE the backups of anything that's no longer on your Macs.
And Time Machine stores backups made locally differently than those made over a network, so you can't continue backing-up to the ones on the external HD if you connect it to the TC.- Answered by James P from Clermont

As long as both computers meet the requirements for accessing the Time Capsule, both will be able to use it.
You might almost think of the Time Capsule as a separate little server all on it's own: It allows access between 2 different networks, acting as a gateway/firewall/etc. On top of that, it hosts both a printer and disk space. You are not restricted to using the disk space strictly for backups, as you can access the space across a network (via Mac or PC) and place arbitrary files on it.
That said, I've only just picked one up and so far I have not seen any option to repartition the disk space. Time machine also places configuration files in the root directory, so I'd suggest making your own sub-directory and using that for your non-backup items, or risk accidentally cleaning up something important to the backups when you clean up your own files. For myself, I'm just now starting the PC backup to it using 3rd party software.- Answered by Eric P from Thornton

"So does this replace my linksys router?"
Yes, connect your modem's Ethernet cable to the TC's single Ethernet WAN port.
"Will it have an IP address just like my linksys to set security etc?"
Yes, exactly.
"And also besides serving as a router it will also backup my macbook pro wirelessly via time machine?"
Yes, if its running OS X Leopard or Snow Leopard.
"Can it back up to separate macbooks via time machine also?"
Yes, within the limitation that your TC should be 2 to 3 times the capacity of all the hard drives being backed up.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

Answer
50 simultaneous users. Remember, this would include iPhones, iPads, iPod Touches, etc. so you should use password protection, or others might access your network and crowd you out before you know what has happened.
Might it be that the Time Capsule was setup using AirPort Utility>AirPort>Access Control to be available only during limited hours, or to limited devices?
Those attempting to log onto the network must always use the correct network name, network security method, and network password, exactly the same as everyone else on the network is using.
If someone is trying to connect from outside the Time Capsule's broadcast range, or just on the edge of it, that might be the cause of failure to connect.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel
