Can the time capsule work as JUST an external hard drive that i can move files to for storage?
I don't want it to continuously backup my computer. is there a way i can turn that function off and just use it like a normal external hard drives for extra storage space?

Best AnswerYes. The Time Machine back-up function software is not necessary to use a Time Capsule - it can be used as an external hard drive. Many users are doing just that.

AnswerThe best way to have Wifi in your car is to purchase an iPad or iPhone, and use it as a Wifi-base. Make sure you have those features in your mobile subscription or plan.

I have an Apple TV 2. I am looking to purchase a Time Capsule. Can I stream movies stored on TC to Apple TV without the use of a computer?
Also, I am looking for a solution that will NOT require the use of any "jailbreaking" or any other such method. I am looking for a process that will make this possible using only the options that come with the products.
Thank you all for any help that I can receive.- Asked by Dennis H from Killeen

Best AnswerYou can only stream to Apple TV 2 from an iTunes library that is on the same Home Share as your ATV. If you have used your Time Capsule disk as a storage drive for iTunes movies then you will be able to do what you are looking for, but you can't stream unless the computer that runs the iTunes library is on.

Best AnswerIf you are looking for the TC to store music and you play them on different devices, no.
If you are looking to plug speakers into it and stream/play music, no.
If you are looking to wirelessly have your computer's library connected and play same library through a different device (variety of supported speakers, iOS devices, other computers via homesharing, speakers plugged into airport express), yes.- Answered by Albert C from Modesto

Best Answer"Does the time capsule have a built in airport extreme?"
If you mean WI-FI router, than yes.
"I don't need one of each?"
If you mean Time Capsule and Airport Extreme together? No.
The Time Capsule comes with all the great features. It's gonna be your backup drive and your wireless router in one. Plus you have the option to attach additional external hard-drive(s) and/or printer to it via the USB port included on the back. Trust me, you gonna love it.- Answered by Szilard S from Destin

Best AnswerThe hard drive on Time Capsule can act as an external hard drive (over both the wired and wireless networks) for any Mac OS X devices on your network. iOS devices (ie iPad/iPhone) don't have that capability.

I have a year old Airport Extreme and just got Apple TV- 40 ft from apple TV. Takes 1-2 hrs to download movie. Will new TC speed downloads
What is range of Time capsule and how quickly does signal drop? home construction is wooden-one story. • Current Airport Extreme Model number- A1143. Have high speed Internet, but not sure what that speed is?

AnswerAirport Extreme and Time Capsule have the same internet speeds. Only Time Capsule can be used for backups though. Don't waste money on a Time Capsule, your problem with your internet is not with the Extreme, it could be something else like obstruction.

Our office have PCs anf Macs, can the time capsule use to backup for both different OS and also have user access protection for PC user to access Mac backup?

Best AnswerBoth Macs and PC's can access the time capsule's storage (either over AFP or SMB). However, Time Machine backups are a Mac only feature. You'll need to configure extra software on the PC (windows backup for example) to make PC backups to the Time Capsule. User access protection works for both.

Is there a way to back up the HD connected to the Time Capsule as well as my computer's hard drive?
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule with attached 500GB LaCie external hard drive (this contains my music, video and photos, which no longer fit on my computer's hard drive). My computer's hard drive backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine - no problem. Is there a way to set this up so that the LaCie, which is connected to the Time Capsule, also backs up automatically to the Time Capsule? Or will I need to periodically (manually) copy and paste the files on the LaCie to the Time Capsule? For safety's sake, I want two copies of the files on the LaCie - one on the LaCie and a second copy on the Time capsule. Thanks for any advice!

Best AnswerIf your computer is using the Time Capsule for the Time Machine back-ups, then the LaCie's contents aren't changing unless you explicitly access it. Time Machine is meant to be used to back-up the computer's drive, other drives will need to be backed up manually.

Can TimeCapsule be put into bridge mode? Can I avoid a double NAT? My router or PIX will NAT the clients; Can I bridge the connection?
I have a DSL modem which can of course attach to this. Is it only capable of acting as a router or can it be put into bridge mode so I can put my Cisco PIX behind the DSL modem. In this way currently the PIX assigns a DHCP address to attached clients. Nothing is mentioned about this device having firewall capabilities and I require them.

Best AnswerYes, very easily. Just go into the manual setup and you will see bridge mode. You can also turn off NAT and the DHCP server so that all the router in the Time Capsule transparently passes everything through. At the same time you can use the wireless capabilities. I have an older model of TC which provides only one wireless network so I have my DSL router do the 802.11g network for devices like the iPhone, and the TC does the 5GHz 802.11n network for my MacBook Air and iMac.

If i delete something on my computer, will it delete on the time capsule?
So if I have a file in my computer and then time machine syncs this file as a backup, so if I delete this file on my computer will it be deleted on time capsule??
- Asked by Antonio S from Bogotá
- Jan 5, 2011

Best AnswerTime Capsule, assuming it is configured to back up your Mac, will keep any deleted files/folders until it runs out of space, at which time it will delete the oldest backup first. So your deleted file/folder will remain on Time Capsule until that backup becomes the oldest and Time Capsule needs to free up space.
