Our office have PCs anf Macs, can the time capsule use to backup for both different OS and also have user access protection for PC user to access Mac backup?

Both Macs and PC's can access the time capsule's storage (either over AFP or SMB). However, Time Machine backups are a Mac only feature. You'll need to configure extra software on the PC (windows backup for example) to make PC backups to the Time Capsule. User access protection works for both.

Does time capsule backup multiple users on a same computer as a single profile?

Best Answer
If you choose to allow it to do so when you authorize Time Machine backups, Time Machine will back up everything on a Mac's internal hard drives as well as on USB external drives connected to the same Mac. Yes, this certainly includes all users. Of course you can choose to backup less than everything.

I have a year old Airport Extreme and just got Apple TV- 40 ft from apple TV. Takes 1-2 hrs to download movie. Will new TC speed downloads
What is range of Time capsule and how quickly does signal drop? home construction is wooden-one story. • Current Airport Extreme Model number- A1143. Have high speed Internet, but not sure what that speed is?

Answer
Airport Extreme and Time Capsule have the same internet speeds. Only Time Capsule can be used for backups though. Don't waste money on a Time Capsule, your problem with your internet is not with the Extreme, it could be something else like obstruction.

Can I place a external hard drive On time capsule when i fill it up??? Also will it continue to save as time machine??
- Asked by Jesse K from Woolamai

Best Answer
You can not use multiple disks to enlarge the size of even a single designated Time Machine backup. (The thing about Time Machine is that it will eventually fill up any disk you choose as the backup disk, no matter how large a disk you choose - as the amount of space that will be used is simply a function of time.)
You can, however, add an even larger USB external hard drive to your Time Capsule and switch your entire designated Time Machine backup disk to it instead of continuing to use the smaller disk that you've been using. Once the switch is completed, you could re-purpose the original (smaller) disk to a new task, such as backing up another (hopefully smaller) Mac.
Or, if you've been backing up multiple Macs to a single Time Capsule disk, you can limit the number of Macs that are being backed up to each particular designated destination backup disk, so that each disk that is designated as a backup destination is always the proper 2.5 to 3 times as large as the total size of the Mac disks being backed up to it.
Remember, you can add multiple external USB hard drives by connecting a self-powered USB hub to a Time Capsule. This can give you the ability to backup multiple Macs by designating one specific backup destination of sufficient size for each Mac being backed up.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

Time Capsule as an External Hard Drive + Ethernet Cable question
In reading up on the Time Capsule, it can be used as a router and for storage purposes.
Some questions:
1) can the Time Capsule be used just as an external hard drive, not for back up purposes at all? Is there a setting that needs to be checked to make sure that it doesnt back up anything at all.
2) can I move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via an ethernet cable for faster speeds? Do I need a special ethernet cable?
3) can I also move files from a macbook or pc to the time capsule via wifi if I want, just wondering if it is possible?- Asked by Seth S from New York

Time capsule works fine as an external hard drive, no problems. When your Mac asks if you would like to use time capsule for time machine select "no".
If you connect via a cable, things are faster and you can transfer data to the Time capsule no problem.
If you switch your Mac to WIFI you can connect to a Time Capsule and move files to the TC hard drive just like normal.- Answered by Joe E from Kalamazoo

Is there a way to back up the HD connected to the Time Capsule as well as my computer's hard drive?
I have a new 2TB Time Capsule with attached 500GB LaCie external hard drive (this contains my music, video and photos, which no longer fit on my computer's hard drive). My computer's hard drive backs up to the Time Capsule using Time Machine - no problem. Is there a way to set this up so that the LaCie, which is connected to the Time Capsule, also backs up automatically to the Time Capsule? Or will I need to periodically (manually) copy and paste the files on the LaCie to the Time Capsule? For safety's sake, I want two copies of the files on the LaCie - one on the LaCie and a second copy on the Time capsule. Thanks for any advice!

Best Answer
If your computer is using the Time Capsule for the Time Machine back-ups, then the LaCie's contents aren't changing unless you explicitly access it. Time Machine is meant to be used to back-up the computer's drive, other drives will need to be backed up manually.

Can I have multiple Apple TV's accessing my iTunes library on my iMac, with all of the media stored on a Time Capsule?
I want to get a 2TB Time Capsule for movies, and then have 3 Apple TVs all streaming from it through my iMac.

Absolutely you can!
As long as your iTunes Music folder is on the Time Capsule, and you've told each of your iTunes libraries where the folder is, then you're ready to rock! Your Apple TVs will access the library files on your iMacs without knowing any different.- Answered by Jared M from Fiddletown

Can I use the Time Capsule as an VPN Client
Is it possible to use the TimeCapsule as an VPN Client, so that every device connected to Time Capsule is automatically connected to the VPN.
I usually use a VPN Client software on my Mac or iPhone to connect to the VPN Network of the University i work for from home. My question is if the TimeCapsule can establish such a connection my itself, so that all devices I connect to the TimeCapsule are connected to the VPN automatically.- Asked by Jan G

NO, you can't do it. You can just connect an aditional ethernet router with VPN to Capsule.

Data Transfer Speed Rates?
Right now i am running a AE dual band and have a 2TB external hooked up to it. As it stands my data transfer rates (as recorded with menu meters) across the wireless are on as follows
Download 4.0-8.4 MB/S
Upload 3.0-5.6 MB/S
What are the expected and average actual data transfer rates for the TC? I would imagine a partial increase due to the fact that all data no longer has to be transferred through a USB 2.0 cable first.- Asked by Kyle M from Leduc
- Aug 21, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
If you use the TC as the base station that creates the network, you get 15-20MB/sec transfer rate to disk. (That assumes good signal strength.)
If you use the TC as client to join an existing wireless network, you get only 0.5-1MB/sec. According to Apple support, "A TC is not meant to be used as a client that joins an existing network."- Answered by Michael H from Holland Park

Can Time Machine back up both the Boot Camp partition and the Mac partition at the same time? (i.e., everything that is on my iMac).
Uh Oh...
I just realised that it probably won't because the Boot Camp partition looks like a separate drive on my desktop. Bummer! So how can I back up both the iMac and Windows partitions to my Time Capsule??- Asked by David H from Kambah

Best Answer
Well actually you can do this.
Simply make an image of the BootCamp partition on your Mac drive using WinClone . This will be a boot-able image of the BootCamp drive that can be restored in a few minutes.
Then backup the whole Mac drive with Time Machine.- Answered by Russell F

What do I have to disable in my wireless router modem for the TC to work as my wireless access point for my broadband?
I have a Netgear wireless modem router and this question section talks about disabling some aspects of these type of devices. This appears to be when you wish the TC to act as the access point and then have it connected using a wire to the Netgear device to the internet. What do I need to do or disable?

Can I use the time capsule to backup multiple macs? I have a macbook pro and a mac mini. I would like to be able to back them up wirelessly.

Best Answer
YES.
If you are using your wireless ability to backup your files you can set your time capsule to backup more than one system. It works like an airport extreme. It can link to 50 users and so all you need to do is find it in your wireless connections on both of your systems and type in the password you have set for it and it will backup both your macbook and your mac mini.- Answered by Tyler C
