Any chance that this monitor would work with a older monitor when the older monitor connects to the thunderbolt port on the back of this display?
I have a 24 inch samsung monitor that works fine when connects with the 2011 MBP directly via a mini display port to DVI adaptor, but it doesn't work when I connect it to the back of the thunderbolt port of the thunderbolt display. Is there a chance that I could get the samsung monitor working to set up the dual monitor system with the thunderbolt display?

Best AnswerThe answer is not correct. A second older display can be added, but not directly attached to the Thunderbolt display. You have to put some other Thunderbolt device in the middle and make the old cinema display the last in the chain. Therefore you could connect a Lacie external thunderbolt drive and then connect the old cinema display to the Lacie drive as it has two thnuderbolt ports. This would then give you two 27" displays. Not cheap way of doing things but at the moment it is the only way.

AnswerYou wouldn't, as the TBD doesn't have a headphone output. Instead you'd connect your speakers directly to the computer driving the display, whether Mac Pro, MBP or Mini.

Best AnswerNo you cannot boot a bootable USB with the Apple Thunderbolt Display because it is not a computer. The ports on the back of the display are connected to a computer using a thunderbolt cable not to the display its self.

Best AnswerCurrently there is no such product as a Thunderbolt NAS drive. Thunderbolt HDD, yes. When you connect a Thunderbolt drive to the Thunderbolt Display (or directly to a Thunderbolt computer) the drive could be shared on the network. The computer must be present, the Thunderbolt display can not provide this service without the computer. The display provides you all the ports (no adapters required) plus a audio system and provides power for a MacBook.
I have a MacBook Air connected to the Thunderbolt Display with several Seagate Thunderbolt drives connected to the display Thunderbolt port. The beauty of the Thunderbolt Display is that it becomes the hub of your desk to hook cables to. Just one cable connects to a MacBook and that supplies the power too. No adapters are needed for a MacBook Air to make Firewire 800 and Ethernet and additional (3) USB connections. If you need additional USB ports beyond the three on the display, you may plug a powered USB hub into the display.
And, yes, the MacBook will work in a cover closed mode when attached to the display, if you wish.

Best AnswerWhile you aren't required to use the MagSafe charger that the Thunderbolt Display provides for powering your computer, you would still need to use the original affixed Thunderbolt cable to connect the display itself.
