Macbook air doesn't have FireWire or Etherne port.. Can I connect the MBA to display and use display ports instead?
Eg. I need to connect my MacBook air to my router via Ethernet cable... Can I use the display to create this connection? Same for FireWire?

Best Answer
Yes, the Thunderbolt Display includes not only those ports, but also the relevant controllers for them. As such, connecting a computer like the Air, which has Thunderbolt but lacks FireWire or Ethernet, to the display will enable the use of all the ports the display has.

what is the difference between the thunderbolt display and the cinema display?
- Asked by Reynaldo Allan B from Los Angeles
- Nov 25, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
The differences between the two are:
Cinema display needs 3 connections to work, Thunderbolt display uses 2.
Cinema display works with Mini Display port, Thunderbolt display only works with Thunderbolt port.
cinema display has 3 USB 2.0 ports on the back, the thunderbolt display has 3 USB 2.0 ports, FireWire 800, an additional Thunderbolt port and an ethernet port.
apart from that, they look identical, have the same screen resolution and cost exactly the same.- Answered by Sam R

Can i connect a macbook pro equipped with Thunderbolt to an old ADC cinema display? if so, How?
I'm in the market for a new macbook pro, but i can't seem to find any definite information as to whether or not i can use my old cinema display (using ADC). I know there is an ADC-DVI converter, and a Thunderbolt-DVI converter. Is it possible to simply buy both and use the old display?

Answer
The answer is yes. Once the ADC-DVI converter is in place it is, effectively, a DVI plug. After that using the Thunderbolt to DVI converter is what you need.
