Can I connect the HDTV and the Apple TV to an HDMI splitter, then connect the splitter to the cable box via HDMI?

Best Answer
The cable box and the Apple TV are both sending video to the TV. So you'd need an HDMI splitter box with (at least) 2 x HDMI in and 1 x HDMI out (to the TV). Most modern A/V stereo receivers support HDMI switching.
This all assumes your TV only has a single HDMI port. If you have two HDMI inputs, then you can connect your cable box to one and the Apple TV to the other.- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa

Answer
Yes. I have a mini vga adapter connected between my macbook pro and my Samsung 40" HDTV. It connects to the VGA input on the TV and a separate but parallel audio cord connects from the headphone outlet on the macbook to the mini jack audio input on the TV. I set the macbook pro display to "mirroring" and the macbook becomes just another "channel" on the TV, selected with the "Source" button on the Samsung remote. Works like a charm!
