Best AnswerOk, I will assume your TV has an HDMI connector, as to do this with DVI or VGA is a bit different as these latter two do not carry audio, current HDMI standard does.
First, you need the "Apple 30-pin Digital AV Adapter". This adapter converts your 30-pin adapter on your iPod 4G to HDMI with audio. Once you have this adapter, you need a cable, such as the one here "Apple HDMI to HDMI Cable" to run from this adapter to the TV.
And yes, this will all be in HD, assuming your video you are sending to the TV is HD. Also, the audio is digital, so you'll get great sound quality, too.
Another option is to skip the cables, and go wireless with AirPlay through an AppleTV. The quality of wireless video will be a lower vs. a cable, but the freedom of wireless can be very nice!- Answered by Charles H from Saint Paul

Can this cable connect Apple TV to a computer monitor that has an HDMI slot.
Im interested in Apple TV and was wondering if I could purchase a monitor that accepts HDMI so I can use Apple TV like I normally would with a regular tv.

Best AnswerYes you can use this cable to directly connect an Apple TV to any monitor with an HDMI port. As of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion, Macs do not have Front Row anymore. Also this July (2012) OS X Mountain Lion will be released, with which you will be able to wirelessly 'mirror' the screen of your Mac, iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to any Apple TV you have.

Best AnswerYou have a Mac with what is known as a Mini-DVI port. You will need the Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter, or the Apple Mini-DVI to VGA Adapter. Since your TV is new, it very likely has an HDMI port. You can purchase a DVI to HDMI cable from MonoPrice.com or the like.
However, DVI does not carry audio, so if you want to use the TV's speakers, you will need to connect the audio-out from your MacBook to an audio-in port on your TV. I don't know the options on your TV, but it may have analog and digital audio inputs. This means you can use a regular analog audio cable with the 1/8" plug on your MacBook side audio-out, and whatever connector is on your TV. And/Or, if your TV supports digital audio, you can use a special TOSLink cable that would plug into the same analog audio-out port on your MacBook. Apple sells three on it's web site, Moshi, Belkin, and XtremeMac.
Or, skip the cables, and buy an AppleTV to connect directly to your TV via HDMI. If you don't have OS X Lion or Mountain Lion, you can purchase an application called AirParrot to stream your video and audio directly through your AppleTV. In Lion and Mountain Lion, the AppleTV streaming feature is built-in. It is called AirPlay.- Answered by Charles H from Saint Paul

Is this cable any different than a regular HDMI to HDMI cable you can purchase from a store? Does Apple have it's own HDMI standard?

Best AnswerThere's some different HDMI Standards. Any new cable should do the job. But there are some old ones (especially the cheap ones) which p.ex. don't transfer digital audio.
Try your existing HDMI cables and if they don't work, a new one solves most of the problems…- Answered by Stefan S

What cable do I need to connect a MacBook pro to an hdmi tv? I think it requires a USB connection

Best AnswerUSB is NOT used for this sort of video connection.
There's two ways of doing this. The first is possible only if you have a relatively new MacBook Pro (or iMac) that has a Mini DisplayPort connection for external video. If so, you can use the Kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI cable available through the Apple Store.
For any type of MacBook, MacBook Pro, or iMac, you can use a combination of:
1. A video adapter that turns your Mac's external display port into generic DVI. The specific adapter required depends on your Mac, as different models have used different types of connections. For example, if your MacBook has a mini-DVI connector, then you'll need a mini-DVI to DVI adapter. Apple has DVI adapters for almost all of their various models (past and present).
2. A DVI to HDMI cable, such as the ones from Belkin available here at the Apple Store.- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa

Best AnswerHDMI carries sound and video, while DVI only carries video. If you used an HDMI to DVI cable, you would not have sound.
