What is the difference between component av cable and composite av cable

The Composite AV has 3 connections to your TV - the combined video signal and audio left and right. The Component AV cable has 3 connectors for video (separated into Red, Blue and Green signals to produce a better picture) and the left and right audio connectors.
Most older TVs that have AV inputs will have a set of composite inputs as will as some HDTVs, but typically only HDTVs have the Component inputs. Check your TVs inputs to see what you need. If the input on the TV has only 3 connectors (yellow, white and red) it is composite and if there are 5 connectors in the input grouping together you need the component cable.- Answered by Brian B from Montgomery

Just tested this Composite AV Cable with Iphone4 (gsmA1332)IOS6.Netflix, Youtube(also tested with Safari), BBC iplayer global and Veetle only sound working no picture. Tried with two other Iphones, 4 and 4s running IOS5.1 all working fine sound and picture. Dont up date if you want to use this cable. If you updated problem.(I tried but failed to revert the phone back to IOS5.1) Go buy a Apple TV that works and may be the only solution. I havent tested a HDMI or component cable myself, but I have been reading other posts they seem to have problems also.

Not through this cable, I agree with the previous person, unless you purchase the HDMI cable, that works, but this cable does not show video if you have updated to IOS 6

does the av composite cables work with the ipad with retina display
- Asked by Sue V from Lockport

Answer
Great question. But the answer is no. You'd think attaching a "Lightning to 30-pin Adapter" to an iPad with Retina Display, then attaching the "Apple Composite AV Cable" would work right? Because they all connect. HOWEVER, Apple states "Video output not supported" by the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter. So you'd get audio but no video. Apple needs to come out with a "Lightning to Composite AV Cable" for older TV's (non-HDMI/HDTV). Oh well ... Your best bet is to get the Lightning Digital AV Adapter - it works great - with an HDMI/HDTV.

Will the Apple Composite AV cable work with an iPhone 5 -- with an adapter? Or will the analog audio be a problem?
- Asked by Gregory J from New Albany

Best Answer
The audio will work (99% sure) because the converter between Lightning and 30 pin supports analog audio out. The video (yellow cable) will not work :(
As far as I can tell, there is no way to support composite video on the iphone 5 without using an expensive converter box from VGA or HDMI.- Answered by Jerry R from Portsmouth

How do I connect my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) with an HP w2207 monitor?
I see from the Apple Support Communities forum that in April 2010 there were problems with this when a large number of people upgraded from Snow Leopard 10.5.8, and their Macs wouldn't recognize this monitor, when previously they had done so prior to upgrading their OS.
I don't want to get the wrong or an unnecessary cable, nor do I want to mess with the software.
Please advise.- Asked by Jeremy H

With this cable connector, would I be able to stream Netflix movies from my iPad Mini?
I would obviously buy the lightening to 30pin adapter to connect the cable. What I want to do is just watch Netflix with my iPad but see it on the tv, or play games and see it on the tv. Thanks!

will the volume control on the iPod work with the audio out?
Using an Apple composite AV cable to my home stereo, will the volume control on the iPod control the output to the stereo? Or is the output from the iPod a fixed volume? Using a Nano 5th generation. If I upgrade to a Nano 7th gen, and use the adaptor, will this effect the volume control?
