How does it operate when used with a 4:3 TV or a 16:9 TV? Does it crop or letterbox for either? What are the limitations and expectations?
I am looking for the expectations of the performance when this cable is used with different TV aspect ratios. What is the native signal (4:3 because it is a composite signal or 16:9 because the iphone4 is that size?) Willl it be full screen on an old 4:3 (non-HD TV), or full screen on a 16:9 (HD TV). or both?

AnswerGreat question, I've been trying to solve an issue related to this: when I use the cable with my iPhone 4 to watch YouTube its just full screen and appears fine. However when I watch an iTunes movie on any tv in the house the sides are clipped off. I'm missing about an eight of the screen on both sides, and its full screen.

Best Answeryes it is. if your ipod touch is 8 or 16gb, then it is 2nd gen, and can only go to 4.2.1, but if it is a 3rd gen for certain, then yes, it can go to iOS 5.1

is there a av cable with the lightning connector
I have a new ipad and would like to get a av cable to watch movies on my tv. the only cables i see is a thirty pin and an adaptor for the lightning. is there a av cable with the lightning connector or do i have to spend another thirty dollars to get the adaptor from thirty pin to the lightning

Best AnswerI have the same problem - I have iPhone5 and iPod touch 5th gen and I want to watch iTunes music videos and other movies on my car dvd player (for the kids etc) and my dvd player only has AV inputs. I was told by Apple that the only video out cable for these devices is HDMI, they don't support AV.
Don't bother with the 30 pin to lightening adaptor to connect to the Composite AV cable. It only outputs audio (I've tried it). I got Apple TV for watching on my home TV - very good!- Answered by Sue J

Best AnswerMmmmm....not so much. You can connect the cable to all devices listed by Apple on the AV Composite page at the Apple store, but only 4th Generation IPod Touches, potentially certain IPhones, and the IPad can stream video from the web. All listed devices can play video and tv programs that ON your device. But, no Netflix (or other streaming web content, YouTube, etc.) for those below a 4th generation!

Does using the cable let you see exactly what you see on your phone on a monitor?
Hi,
I'm wondering if using the cable let you see your iphone screen on the monitor? (i.e. seeing what you see on your phone but an exact copy on the monitor).
I have some medical apps for anatomy which I would like to view on a larger screen.
It's Netter's Anatomy for my iphone (it say's it's incompatible with ipads though if that makes a difference).

Best AnswerYes! I bought this cable for my I-Pod 4 originally and tried it when I just got my I-Phone 4. It works great, the sound quality is wonderful. I have a 2009 Nissan Murano that I choose not to purchase the "tech package" on which included the I-Pod adapter. So now I just hook up the I-Pod or I-Phone using the rca audio jacks that are in the car with this cable. The downfall is that it does not charge at the same time..I have a seperate cable for that.

AnswerThe iWires 3.5mm cable will be the easiest way to connect to a Bose wave system without using the Bose Wave connect kit. No adapters needed simply connect the cable from your iPad 3.5mm Jack into the Headphone input on the rear of the Wave system. This should provide decent quality audio providing you adjust the volume on your iPad to a level that does not cause distortion when using the Wave system at high volume levels.
Alternatively you could purchase the Bose Wave Connect Kit which is specifically designed for iDevices but it will no doubt be the most expensive option & I doubt the difference in audio quality will be worth the extra expense.- Answered by Jamie H
