I want to use my mac book 13 in England and |Ireland, do a need just an adapter plug, or do i need a converter

You will not need to use a converter, your MagSafe Power Adapter that came with your laptop will automatically regulate the 230-240 volt power that is common in the UK and throughout Europe. You will however need an adapter that will allow you to plug in your US three prong grounded plug into the standard UK 2 prong outlet. Always remember to plug the Apple MagSafe Power Adapter into the UK outlet prior to connecting it to your computer. It’s just a "good practice" safe guard against any power spikes before connecting it to your computer. I have lived in Europe, the Middle East and Asia for fir the last 5 years and have never had an issue when using the standard macbook pro power cord with the appropriate plug adapter for that region.

LIMITED WARRANTY – APPLE ACCESSORY: "Your APPLE hardware product is warranted against defects in materials and workmanship for a period of ONE (1) YEAR from the date of original retail purchase."
After buying several power power adapters for my MacBook Pro over the last three years, an Apple Store employee told us about the one year warranty and exchanged our defective MagSafe 85 Watts free of charge--just need receipt and product box. From Macworld Mag 2006:
If you hold the two power supplies side by side, you’ll notice that the MacBook Pro’s is larger. That’s because the MacBook Pro uses an 85-watt power supply, while the MacBook uses a 60-watt power supply. Apple says you can use the more powerful, 85-watt power supply with a MacBook without any problems, and that in 80 percent to 90 percent of situations, you can use the MacBook’s power supply with the more-demanding MacBook Pro as well. If you’re really taxing the MacBook Pro’s processor with some heavy-duty work, the MacBook’s adapter will still be able to power the MacBook Pro—but it may not have any power left over to charge its battery.
so, yes, contrary to what everyone else has said, you can.- Answered by Wendy S from Montgomery Village

Does the power adapter continue to consume the same amount of energy when it is not plugged into the laptop (but still plugged into the socket)?
...or is there an energy-saving feature built in that reduces or eliminates its power usage when it's not actually charging a laptop?

Any of the Macbook adapters, including the MacBook Air will run on any other Macbook model if you're only charging it when off or in sleep mode. The adapters are rated to handle the unit running the drive, display and processors under load. In a pinch you can use the 45 watt 'Air model to run the 85W 'Pro BUT I wouldn't recommend you run it that way except to quickly check your email, etc. If you HAVE to use the 45W or 60W to charge the battery in an 85W model, shut the laptop down, plug it in to charge and THEN run the laptop in the battery without the charger connected I have all of these models and have had to do this on occasion.

Best Answer
The version number you have given is for the Operating System, which is software, not hardware. Chargers are dependent on hardware requirements.
However, assuming that you have a White MacBook 13-inch, the 60W Charger will work fine, as the MacBook was one of the first to adopt the MagSafe power connector.- Answered by Pawel S

Will this charger work with a 15" macbook pro with retina display?
- Asked by Dylan T from Brisbane
- Sep 3, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
no this will not work with the 15" macbook pro with retina display because the 15" macbook pro with retina display uses more power so it requires a more powerful charger and also because the charging head is different on the charger for the 15" macbook pro with retina display since the body became thinner

Your older MBP required an 85W power adapter. The newer model requires a 60w power adapter. If you are buying another adapter to wokr with both products, buy an 85w power adapter.

Grounding my macbook air
When I got my macbook air I noticed that you can have an ungrounded plug adapter inserted into the brick or have a cord with a grounded plug inserted. What are the differences in using these different plugs?
- Asked by Angela K from Dartmouth

Answer
One is grounded and the other is ungrounded as you mentioned. I find that it is very important to use the three prong/grounded plug when ever you can, just because it is safer. The two prong is great for when traveling since you don't need to carry an extra 3 foot cable with you. Others and I have also found that the MacBooks heat up less when using the grounded cable.
The only real difference is convenience for the consumer.
Hope this answers your question.- Answered by Matthew S from Prince George

AC power cord - is that also included when I purchase an Adapter? If not, how can I also acquire the AC cord?
When I purchase an Apple MagSafe Power Adapter, do I also by the thick AC power extension cord (>1m) that one uses to connect the adapter to the actual power outlet in the wall? (i.e. similar to the one I got when purchasing my Macbook originally?) This is left ingeniously unclear in the product description of the MagSafe Adapter and the accompanying pictures, which is not helped with the absence of such a separate AC power cord in the Macbook product accessory categories.
In addition, is the configuration of the prongs in the plug of the AC cord that which is used in the country where the Adapter/Cord are purchased. That is, when purchasing the adapter via AppleStore/Canada I would expect to get a North-American version? It would be best would be if one could specify this technical aspect, too, instead of having to guess.- Asked by Antti A

Yes sir, it does come with the AC extension cable. There is reference to it buried in the description quoted below:
"When the connection is secure….An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel."

What is the length of this cable?
I always study in my college library, but the plug is far from my desk. My original charger is too short, so I need a long one that can reach my desk which is usually far away from the plug of our library. I wonder if anyone can tell me how long its cable is. Thank you!

It will work ok, but it wont necessarily charge your battery.,
A Macbook Pro 15 & 17 need the extra power to run the LCD panel, so it the macbook is off, or you have an external monitor plugged in with the cover closed, it'll work fine, and charge the battery.
But - if you are using the LCD panel, one of 2 things will happen - either the mac will run, but not charge the battery, or, the battery will slowly drain, since 60W not quite enough for full running. When the battery runs out, it will suspend, even with the adapter plugged in (and the adapoter will also power off, and not work again until it's unplugged for 10 seconds when this happens).
I have the newest MBP17, with the top spec - and this is precisely what happens when i use my wife's mac Air's 60W power adapter...- Answered by Robert E
