Is it ok if i use the 85w for my 13

AnswerYes. The laptop only draws as much power as it needs. So a higher wattage cord is compatible as long as it fits, as this one does, unless you have a new retina.

Best AnswerFrom Macworld Mag 2006:
If you hold the two power supplies side by side, you’ll notice that the MacBook Pro’s is larger. That’s because the MacBook Pro uses an 85-watt power supply, while the MacBook uses a 60-watt power supply. Apple says you can use the more powerful, 85-watt power supply with a MacBook without any problems, and that in 80 percent to 90 percent of situations, you can use the MacBook’s power supply with the more-demanding MacBook Pro as well. If you’re really taxing the MacBook Pro’s processor with some heavy-duty work, the MacBook’s adapter will still be able to power the MacBook Pro—but it may not have any power left over to charge its battery.
so, yes, contrary to what everyone else has said, you can.- Answered by Wendy S from Montgomery Village

Best Answer2009 model originally used power adapter with model number A1184(60W), so electrically, this new A1344 should work. Here is the catch, if you update your mac in the following year, current 15 inch model requires charger with 85W power, so you will end up with a unusable A1344. On the other hand, 85W charger can be safely used with both old and new 15 inch model(old one will only drain 60W from it) So it will be a good back up even if you update the machine. The only down side is its slightly heavier weight and larger size.

Will it hurt my macbook pro if i leave the power supply plugged in to the wall socket and in to my 2011 Macbook Pro at all times (mostly)?
My Macbook Pro stays on my desk for the most part. Will it hurt to leave it plugged in all the time, or should the battery be cycled on a regular basis?

Best AnswerSTANDARD MAINTENANCE:
For proper maintenance of a lithium-based battery, it’s important to keep the electrons in it moving occasionally. Apple does not recommend leaving your portable plugged in all the time. An ideal use would be a commuter who uses her notebook on the train, then plugs it in at the office to charge. This keeps the battery juices flowing. If on the other hand, you use a desktop computer at work, and save a notebook for infrequent travel, Apple recommends charging and discharging its battery at least once per month.
LONG-TERM STORAGE:
If you don’t plan on using your notebook for more than six months, Apple recommends that you store the battery with a 50% charge. If you store a battery when it’s fully discharged, it could fall into a deep discharge state, which renders it incapable of holding any charge. Conversely, if you store it fully charged for an extended period of time, the battery may experience some loss of battery capacity, meaning it will have a shorter life. Be sure to store your notebook and battery at the proper temperature.- Answered by Gary S from Jacksonville Beach

AC power cord - is that also included when I purchase an Adapter? If not, how can I also acquire the AC cord?
When I purchase an Apple MagSafe Power Adapter, do I also by the thick AC power extension cord (>1m) that one uses to connect the adapter to the actual power outlet in the wall? (i.e. similar to the one I got when purchasing my Macbook originally?) This is left ingeniously unclear in the product description of the MagSafe Adapter and the accompanying pictures, which is not helped with the absence of such a separate AC power cord in the Macbook product accessory categories.
In addition, is the configuration of the prongs in the plug of the AC cord that which is used in the country where the Adapter/Cord are purchased. That is, when purchasing the adapter via AppleStore/Canada I would expect to get a North-American version? It would be best would be if one could specify this technical aspect, too, instead of having to guess.- Asked by Antti A

Best AnswerYes sir, it does come with the AC extension cable. There is reference to it buried in the description quoted below:
"When the connection is secure….An AC cord is provided with the adapter for maximum cord length, while the AC wall adapter (also provided) gives users an even easier and more compact way to travel."

60W charger for black Macbook
My charger just died but the new 60W is not compatible with my Macbook black, what kind of charger can I buy?
- Asked by Diana M

Best AnswerThe new ones will work just fine as long as your macbook has a rectangular magnetic head (as opposed the round ones that the ibook and powerbook used).
The new power adapters have a smaller metal head (as opposed to plastic) and are designed so that the cable extends backward from the laptop as opposed to off to the side but those are just design improvements. They fit the same port and plug into the computer exactly the same as the plastic rectangular ones.- Answered by Kieran K from Burnsville

the 60W magsafe power adapter that came with my late 2009 13" macbook pro gets extremely hot to the touch while charging. does it need to be replaced?
- Asked by Pamela W from Long Beach
- Jan 13, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerIt depends on what type of applications you are running at the time, such as Final Cut Pro or Safari.
When your computer is running big applications such as Final Cut Pro, you will notice your computer will need more power to do more tasks and therefor your MagSafe power adapter may get warm/hot.
If you are using a less mighty application such as Safari, your MagSafe power adapter should NOT get hot. If it does get hot/burning; I would replace it, especially if it has been mistreated before.
Hope this helps.- Answered by Matthew S from Prince George

Best AnswerNo. The charger for your iPad would be the same as the charger for your iPod or iPhone. The computer chargers are different. This charger is also different from the 13 inch MacBook Pro and MacBook chargers.

Output: +16.5V or +18.5V?
Does a power adapter need to have an output of +16.5V to work on a macbook or can it be +18.5V?

Best AnswerThe Apple 85W is capable of both 16.5V and 18.5V output (adjusts automatically to demand). So it can replace the 60W 16.5V.
