I have 55700HD in my MacPro 1.1 and as far as I can tell its ok.. I just made a post asking about other users experiences with this setup.
However, I am recently experiencing Kernel crashes when using DVDSP4 but this seem to happen (i think!) only after I installed DVDSP4, Cinema Tools and Qmaster (which I was forced to install as I added DVDStudio etc..)
When my system had only FCPX, Motion 5 & Compressor 4 its seemed fine for 98% of the time! Only when I excessively used the mouse and fiddling with a particular Behaviour in Motion, did it crash (cant remember that particular error). I cannot be sure this is anything to do without he Graphics Card though.- Answered by Jay R

Gently rip the old card out of the machine and replace it with the new one. If you must run 4 or more screens, put the old card in a the next slot. I have a 24" ACD with a mini DP and a 30" ACD with the dual link DVI-mDP cable and a 24" Eizo CG243W which ironically comes with both DVI and Displayport connections. I haven't found a DP -> mDP adaptor so the Eizo uses the DVI connection, but all 3 screens run perfectly. Were I to re-install the old card, it wouldn't run at the same speed as it did in slot 1 as slot 1 is the only fast slot. I also have a 1.1 MP.

power source for 5770 in MacPro 4.1?
Where do you plug in the power cord on the MacPro 4.1? Unlike the 1.1 I used to use which had two power sockets under the fans, the 4.1 doesn't have any. So, to use the 5770 you need to get power from where/how? Steal power from a drive bay? Or from second cd/dvd drive bay?

How does this compare to the ATI 4780, the only graphics card listed as an available upgrade for the 2008 MacPros?
- Asked by Andrew G from Miami
- Aug 9, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerPerformance wise they are almost the same in benchmarks the 4870 is slightly better in some games but the 5770 consumes way less energy and comes with the ability to connect to multiple monitors as well as direct x11 (that is only applicable to windows of course) if you have the 4870 you really don't need to "upgrade" to this especially for mac os x you will not see much of a difference at all unless you want to use multiple monitors

Does it Work with a 2008 -Mac Pro 2 X 2.8 Intel Xeon-?
A few weeks back my NVIDIA 8800 GT inside the computer died and i cant use the computer now. I need a nice card to use til I have the money to change the computer to a newer mac pro. The question is if this one is going to work with my machine without any problem. Another thing. Does it includes the power cable?
Thanks a lot!- Asked by Daniel I from Buenos Aires

AnswerYes. I have a mid 2008 Mac Pro 3,1 - 2x2.8 Intel Xeon Quad Core. It also comes with the power cable, or you can use the old one, which I did.
You can install the 5770 with confidence that it will work, just be sure to be running 10.6.4 or newer.

Best AnswerJust fitted a 5770 to 2009 Mac Pro 2.93Ghz Quad-Core with two 24" Cinema displays - works fine, easy to fit. Speakers and Webcam/Facetime only work one monitor at a time.
You will need a 1m Mini DisplayPort extension cable if you Mac is under your desk and over to one side.
Seems faster then the 4870 taken out with the double memory.- Answered by Kent S

Will this work in a MacPro 3,1 not replacing but in addition to either the stock Radeon 2600 or the NVIDIA 120 I also currently have installed?
I added the NVIDIA card to use in addition to my stock card in order to run 4 monitors. This works fine unless I try to playback large HD quicktimes in ProTools. I'm looking to replace either my stock card or the NVIDIA card with the Radeon 5770, still using 2 cards for 4 monitors. If I upgrade to 10.6.5 or 10.6.6 will this work?

i have a 2x2.26 macpro and installed a 5770 . does this card work?
I can't see my vga only display. I have it hooked up to an apple vga/mini adapter. I am running 10.6.8. only one display shows. It does have the gather windows button which is supposed to only show up in the presence of more than one display.

AnswerWithout testing it on that particular box, it should fit and work fine - the issue i have found is that some monitors have a newer bios then the bus ( backplane ) in your computer. So the main monitor via the DVI port should work but the mini DVI ports may not pass the correct signal to second or third monitors.

I'm trying to run 2x 30inch ACD off this with the additional MDP>Dual Link DVI cable. Do i need to return this item?
I ideally want to run the 30inch ACD from the DVI port, and i have bought the MDP>Dual Link DVI cable too, thinking i could run either my other 30inch ACD OR a 21 inch DVI Formac i also run, depending on which is not being used on my PC at the time.
BUT it seems once i plug in the main ACD 30 to the DVI Slot, NOTHING will run through the DVI Dual Link Cable. is this a User / softwar / config issue? or is this the wrong product for what i need? and have Apple once again only focussed on their 27inchLED units?- Asked by Daniel T

Does anyone know if upgrading to this graphics card meets the requirements for Final Cut Pro X running on a 2007 MacPro2.1?
Up till now I have been happy with the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT on my 2007 MacPro2,1Quad-Core Intel Xeon 3 GHz - that was till I went to purchase FCP X on the APp STore and got the graphic card warning.
