Can you use the older docking station with a new cradle (insert) like the 3G and 3GS?
The older iPod docking stations came with various inserts for various iPods.
I assume that someone will make a insert for the 4G phone so we can use the older docking stations.- Asked by Rick S from Sun Valley

USING THE IS DOCKING STATION TO MULTI-TASK WIILL IT DAMAGE THE BATTERY IN THE PHONE (CHARGING AND LISTEN TO MUSIC AT THE SAME TIME)
- Asked by Gloria C from San Francisco
- Feb 7, 2011

Best AnswerDamage to Li-Poly batteries pretty much only occurs if charging while hot. Listening to music should not make the phone hot. Using the GPS with some 3D mapping apps sometimes makes it warm, especially if left in one's pocket (since the GPS, phone radio, 3d 'card' and cpu are all using power, at the same time the battery is giving off some heat).
Since the phone is docked in an upright manner, it has good ventilation, it should not get hot enough to matter.
Note that Li-Poly batteries have a service life even if never used. So you may as well enjoy the device while you have it, and expect to replace the battery every 5-6 years :-p if you've not moved on in that time.- Answered by Tobias H from Troy

will this allow me to connect the iphone to my tv?
how do i connect my iphone to my tv or directv reciever?
- Asked by Mike P from Lyon
- Feb 25, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerIt will if you purchase either the Apple Composite AV Cable or the Apple Digital AV Adapter. The Digital AV Adapter outputs to HDMI so it is a better choice if you are using an HDTV. Either adapter can be plugged into the iPhone itself or this dock to output video such as a movie stored on your iPhone or a YouTube video; the adapter will also output a photo slideshow from the photos app.

How does this dock compare to other docks, is it worth getting? (this question is written because there is no rating allowed on this product)
which dock would you recommend for using with the iPhone 4 and other apple peripherals (ipad, ipods...etc)
- Asked by Alfred A from South Ozone Park
- Jul 14, 2010

AnswerThis dock is designed only for the iPhone 4 without a case.
The Apple Universal Dock comes with adapters for all the current iPods and iPhones and nearly all the older ones.
Both feature an audio out port for speakers/headphones, but only the Universal Dock works with a remote control (also included). The remote can be used to play pause and skip music, photos or video on compatible the devices.
There is one exception, the iPhone 4 doesn't come with a dock adapter and the Universal Dock is missing the iPhone 4 adapter. From my own experience, the original iPhone dock adapter fits the iPhone 4 perfectly.- Answered by Stewart L

Will the iPhone charger fit into the iPhone 4s with the protective bumper ?
I have been reading through peoples comments, and I heard that while the bumper is on the iPhone 4s you can not charge it because it leaves a tiny gap between the 30pin charging socket with your phone and it doesnt lock properly.
Is that true?- Asked by Dinesh M from Kuala Lumpur

Do you have a docking station that fits a Otter Box?
I was hoping to place it on a regular ihome but realize with my Otter Box, it doesn't fit. Do you sell anything that can adapt to this?
- Asked by Christy S from Tallahassee

Best AnswerOnly Otter Box would make a "dock" to fit it's cases. There's not many all-purpose docks out there because you never know what kind of cases are being made. Those docks would be so bulky it ruins the purpose of a desktop dock.

When I plug my iPhone 4 into the dock will I be able to answer speaker calls through the line out or will it always be through the iPhone Speaker?
Advanced Description: I am wondering, if I were to plug my iPhone 4 into this dock, when I receive a call and turn the "speaker function" on, will the audio of the person I am calling come through the built in iPhone speaker or the line out? (This is presuming I have a pair of speakers that are turned on and connected to the out line on the dock)
- Asked by Oscar S from Bellingham
- Jan 23, 2011

AnswerNo the iPhone dock is designed specifically for the chargiing and syncing of your iPhone you can plug in external speakers into the line out jack but i believe that this doesn't allow for the iPhone to take calls while its on this device and change it to speakerphone (if that makes sense).
The line out jack turns the dock into a speaker dock so you can play music through it- Answered by Thomas B
