Will the iPhone 4 fit into the dock with the protective bumper on it or do you have to remove the bumper first?

I've just tried this with an iPhone 4 and bumper case, and can confirm it doesn't fit in (as expected but one always hopes).
I suspect that it will charge with the universal dock, if you take out the custom insert / use an original iPhone or iPhone 3G insert.- Answered by Jonathan K from London

external antenna
Does the iPhone 4 have a facility for plugging in a high gain external antenna for use in fringe areas as encountered in outback Australia ?
Even a docking device with an inductive coupling in the area of the inbuilt antenna may suffice. This feature could be included in the dock to charge the batteries and use as hands free from a vehicle's 12 VDC power.

no sorry, it is simply a dock that charges, syncs with your computer, connects to a speaker via 3.5mm headphone port and allows audio porting through the two holes, it does nothing for the antenna

Why is a dock necessary when the iphone can b synched, charged etc using the cable without the dock?
- Asked by Julia L

Answer
Hi Julia,
I asked myself the same question before I bought this product, so here's what I found, I hope you find it helpful.
The dock is designed so that you can sync and charge your device, these are only the basic features!
I found the dock also has unique 'pass-through' system in It's base, so that you can also make extremely clear speakerphone calls whilst your iPhone is seated in the device.
The other feature of the dock's design is keeping the iPhone upright, this keeps the device well ventilated, I use my phone a lot, often after some time in my hand a considerable amount of heat builds up in device in the area near the SIM card, this is because this is also the area of the device where the phone's internal processor is (so the heat is a natural side effect of extended use.)
Since I find the speakerphone useful because I work a lot in front of my computer, and most often require both hands to work, the dock streamlines this.
Now I suppose you would ask why not sit the phone on my desk to use the speaker? - I found two problems with this, the first was the lack of ventilation caused a very large heat increase in the unit, the second relates to the microphone on the device, I found it was less effective when laid flat, my clients had difficulty hearing me, etc.
Before I considered purchasing the dock, I looked around for devices that were iPhone compatible with a speakerphone, they are few and far between and often expensive (in relation to the simple dock.)
I hope this helps you!- Answered by Peter M from Armidale

Can you use the dock from the original ipod to charge iphone 4?
- Asked by Jason S from Urbandale
- Dec 27, 2010

Answer
Yes you can use the original ipod universal dock to charge an iphone4. I use it but the only problem is you will get that annoying message this accessory is not designed to be used for this iphone every time you dock.
You get this message as the original universal dock does not have shielding to block interferance from the cellular signal.
It will still function correctly and you can control with the apple remote control.- Answered by Leroy F

Will leaving iPhone in the cradle after full charge cause battery damage?
I plan to use the cradle at my desk as a resting place for iPhone, will the cradle cut power to the phone once it's fully charge or will it continue with charging, causing damage to the battery? thanks!

Best Answer
No, while the Iphone is in the dock or simply hooked up to power and the charging sequence is completed, the phone stops charging the batter. It will not do any damage to the batter, if you leave it in the dock

Does This Dock Boost Your Signal?
My old iPhone 3G dock gave me 5 bars when I usually have one at home, it meant I could receive text messages more reliably when it was docked. Does the iPhone 4 dock do the same thing?
- Asked by Harry P from Alresford
- Jun 26, 2010

Best Answer
The dock connector provides no connection to the antenna on the iPhone, so the dock itself (for the 3G or 4) shouldn't really do anything in way of improving signal. What you may have experienced was an increase in signal because the iPhone was not in your hand or on a hard surface, both of which could potentially decrease signal strength. Other than that the dock will do no good in boosting the signal.

record video from the dock?
Can you take video whilst the camera is being powered from the dock? This would mean one could take many hours of unbroken video until the storage capacity is exceeded and not be restricted by battery life (so for example I could video a six hour workshop from the dock powered by the mains)

Answer
Connection to the dock shouldn’t be any different from connection to the power cable that came with the phone, so yes, that should work. But the angle of the phone in the dock could be awkward for video—I’d rather just use the power cable that came with the phone, and rig up a home-made adjustable mounting spot (or use something like a gorillapod iphone mount).

No, but you can use the included headphones with mic and volume buttons. Plug them into the headphones jack, and the built-in mic will "take over" as your Internal Microphone.

Nope, there is no IR receiver in this dock, it is only available with the 'Universal Dock', therefore the remote will not work with this dock.

Will the Apple Iphone dock work with the wireless keyboard to enter data into contacts?
- Asked by William P from Crosby
- May 1, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
the iPhone has the wireless communications already built in which includes bluetooth which most wireless keyboards use to connect. The iPhone 4 dock is basically a dock connector to hold your device for charging, syncing, and being able to hold it in the upright position. this means that the dock itself doesn't have anything to do with using the wireless keyboard, the phone does. so weather you have the dock or not you should be able to connect to the iPhone. so the best answer to this would be yes the keyboard will still work if the dock is present.

Can the dock play my iphone music through my mac pro speakers?
I'd like to listen to my iPhone's music and playlists through the speakers connected to my office Mac Pro. Will the line out from the dock play through the Mac Pro?

Plug your iPhone into your Mac Pro using the sync cable or using a dock and sync cable. Open iTunes. Look on the left side directory pane under Devices. Click on the tiny triangle to the left of your iPhone and the directory will expand downward with all your iPhone's playable content. You can select whatever and itunes will read it and play it directly off your iPhone directly and of course, through your Mac Pro speakers. You can also share your iPhone with other computers using iTunes over your local network in the same way if iTunes sharing is turned on, even older DRM music is supported. These days iTunes music is DRM free.
