Best AnswerNo. The Snow Leopard DVD is a full installer.
You should make sure that you meet the hardware requirements for Snow Leopard though: 1GB RAM and an Intel processor with a DVD Drive and 5 GB of disk space are the main requirements.- Answered by Rodney W from Niddrie

AnswerYes.
Are you sure you only have an Intel Core Duo processor?
Model iMac9,1 should have come with the Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
(The 3.06GHz processor was an option for the 24" iMac.)
I have an older 24" iMac model iMac6,2 with Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Absolutely no problem running Snow Leopard OS 10.6.8.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

can i install snow leopard on a macbook pro and an imac?
I have an iMac and a MacBook Pro. Can I install Snow Leopard on both using one disk? Or do I have to purchase two versions of Snow Leopard?
- Asked by Jarrod S from Mount Vernon
- Feb 19, 2013
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerThe same disk will work on both (as long as both have Intel-processors).
However, you should have a license for both, and that is obtained by buying the disk. Currently Snow Leopard only comes as a single license package, but it used to also come as a Family Pack, with licenses for up to 5 macs in household.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

My imac is running osx version 10.4.11 what do I need to do to upgrade to snow?
- Asked by Randy P from Grimshaw
- Oct 13, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerDepends on if your iMac uses an Intel or PowerPC processor. Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard only supports Intel processors. To find out which processor your Mac has, select "About This Mac" from the Apple menu - a small window will appear listing information about your Mac, including its processor and the amount of RAM your system has. If it says anything with "Intel" in it next to Processor, your system can be upgraded to Snow Leopard. If it says "PowerPC G4/G5", your system is ineligible.
Also, the $29 upgrade pricing for Snow Leopard is only for users who are currently running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard. To upgrade from 10.4, you will need to purchase the Mac Box Set, which also includes iLife '09 and iWork '09.- Answered by Mike B from Roswell

Best AnswerYou must get Mac OS X Snow Leopard to get it. Then run all software updates, get Lion, and facetime will be there. If you have a Mac that Lion doesn't support, you can get it from the Mac App Store for $1. To use Lion, you must have an Intel Core 2 Duo chip.

Best AnswerNo.
The order is:
OS 10.4 Tiger
OS 10.5 Leopard
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard (10.6.8 needed if upgrading to Lion or Mountain Lion)
OS 10.7 Lion
OS 10.8 Mountain Lion
Snow Leopard is last version to come on disc. OS 10.6.8 or later needed to download Lion or Mountain Lion.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

OS X Snow Leopard Upgrade for multiple computers.
I have an iMac and a Macbook that need upgrading to Snow Leopard. Do I need to purchase 2 Snow Leopard DVD packages? Is there a family pack available? There is no description of the license requirements for Snow Leopard on the Apple Store page. (In fact, it's difficult to find Snow Leopard in the store at all!)
- Asked by Katherine K from The Woodlands

AnswerYou "should" have a separate license for each Mac, but can use the same Snow Leopard DVD for all installations.
Before Lion and Mountain Lion were released, there was a Family Pack (which provided licenses for up to 5 macs in a household) and there was the "normal package" which provided a single license. Both packages contained the identical single installation disc, but provided a different number of licenses. Family Pack was $49, and the single license package was $29.
After Lion and Mountain Lion were released, the Family Pack was no longer available. BUT, the single license disc dropped in price to $20. (Which, in your case, makes buying two single license packages less costly than the Family Pack.)
When you are at the Apple Store website, simply type "Snow Leopard" in the search field at the top right (next to the "Support" tab).- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

How can I update my IMac OSX 10.4.11?
- Asked by Sammie Q from Webster

Best AnswerIf your iMac has an Intel processor and at least 1GB of memory, you can do the following (I upgraded to Snow Leopard from OS10.4.11 on an iMac):
Some have upgraded to Snow Leopard directly over OS10.4.11, however, I do not like to do this, instead creating a dual-boot system where I can start-up in either OS10.4 or OS10.6. For dual-boot, do the following:
1) Do a clean install of Snow Leopard to a new partition. If necessary, clone your 10.4 partition to a temporary, bootable external hard drive.
2) All Snow Leopard disks can do a "Clean Install". But with the $29 disk you need to follow some extra steps, since "Erase and Install" is not part of the automatic installation... but the tools to do so are provided on the DVD.
Basically, when you put the Snow Leopard DVD into your Mac, you will be presented with two options: 1) to "Continue" with a standard upgrade, or, 2) go to "Utilities". Select the "Utilities" button (there will be a reboot in order to run from the DVD). In the new screen that appears, under the "Utilities" menu, select Disk Utilities to format your hard drive (or partition) that Snow Leopard is going on to. When you have finished formatting, QUIT from Disk Utilities, and the installer will then complete the installation of Snow Leopard. (Note: be prepared to wait several minutes when the system reboots during installation as it copies and sets up all the files.)
3) At some point during the installation, the installer will search all other partitions for an older OS, and if found, the installer will ask if you want to import the OS Settings, Files and/or Applications from that partition. Do this for a very smooth transition.
4) All my apps from OS 10.4 continued to work in Snow Leopard, but some of my printer drivers and scanner utility needed upgrades. Until I could find the upgrades, I was still able to Start Up from my OS 10.4 partition (press Option during start up) in order to use my printers and scanner in the meantime.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve
