I am still running 10.4.11 (pathetically!)! Can I at least download Snow Leopard first to get a little more uprgraded??

Best AnswerDepends on your Mac's processor.
If it is a PowerPC processor, you CAN NOT install Snow Leopard.
If it is an Intel processor, you CAN install Snow Leopard.
To determine the type of processor, go to "About this Mac" in the "Apple" menu. If the word "Intel" appears anywhere next to "Processor", you can install Snow Leopard. You need at least 1GB of memory, 2GB or more is better.
TIP: Consider installing Snow Leopard on a separate partition (especially since Snow Leopard may need to do some reformatting of the partition it is being installed to). With an OS installed on two partitions, you can then start up from either the Tiger partition or the Snow Leopard partition by pressing the Option Key during startup (or using the Start Up Disk preference in System Preferences). This lets you keep you OS 10.4.11 installation in case you want to jump back.
BTW: If installing to a new partition, Snow Leopard installer will search your Mac for other OS installations and ask you if you want to import OS settings, apps, and/or files from an older installation. Say yes to all for a smoother transition to Snow Leopard. All settings, compatible apps/drivers and files will be copied to the new partition.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I have Mac OS X Version 10.5.8. Today I purchased the new iphone 5 and it's telling me that I need iTunes Version 10.7. Do I have to have OS X 10.6?
- Asked by Sarah D from Daniel Island

Best AnswerI have the same problem. You do have to have the OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard). If you have a Macbook 2008 edition and later and 1 gig of memory on your macbook, you can purchase Snow Leopard for $20. I just had to do the same thing to allow itunes 10.7 to download, so i can sync my iphone 5. After you update to Snow Leopard, if you have 2 gig of memory, you can purchase Lion for another $20 and it will work better with your iphone 5. Unfortunatly, I did not have 2 gig of memory, but snow leopard works just fine!

Ater I buy Snow leopard and download, can I download Iphoto 11
- Asked by Beatrix M from Fort Myers
- Jun 11, 2013

AnsweriPhoto 11 is only compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6.8 when you're using Snow Leopard. If you are using a previous version of Snow Leopard, go to the apple menu and click "Software Update". Update to Snow Leopard 10.6.8. Go to the Mac App Store and download either iPhoto 11 or the latest version of Mac OS X.

I have a Power Mac G5 Dual core running 10.4.11, what OS can I go up to and is it stable on these Macs?
Machine Name: Power Mac G5
Machine Model: PowerMac7,3
CPU Type: PowerPC G5 (2.2)
Number Of CPUs: 2
CPU Speed: 2 GHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB
Memory: 4 GB
Bus Speed: 1 GHz- Asked by Stephen C from Battlefield

AnswerThe last version of the Mac OS to support the PowerPC processor is OS 10.5 (Leopard). Beginning with OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) you had to have a Mac with an Intel processor.
In my opinion, OS 10.4.11 is a very stable release.
If you do decide to upgrade to OS 10.5, it will be very difficult, if not impossible, to find it for sale.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Is Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 the same as Snow Leopard 10.6
- Asked by Keith B from Bonner Springs
- Aug 3, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes. All OS versions starting with "10.6." are Snow Leopard.
When you install Snow Leopard, you will probably be installing an older version such as 10.6.3. Then need to perform Software Updates (under the Apple menu) to update Snow Leopard to the latest version (currently 10.6.8).- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Snow Leopard before Mountain Lion?
I have a Mac from 2009 with a 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, version 10.5.8. Do I need to buy Snow Leopard or can I just by Mountain Lion?

Best AnswerPersonally, don't bother with 10.8- Snow Leopard has been tagged as a very and reliable stable operating system for many into photography, music and high processor-demanding applications.
Your system is plenty for Snow Leopard but might take a hit on Mountain Lion. I/m running an early 2010 MBP and experienced issues immediately with ML, but none with SL

AMD and RAW Format???
HI there
Im planning to buy the Mac OS X Leopard since buying Mac OS X Lion is out of the question. and going to try and install on the AMD Phenom 965 x4. Will this work? on some logs people have actually installed Mac on an AMD processor (mainly on the latest releases).
Also i am having troubles accessing an external hard drive because it changed to a RAW format on my Windows 7 PC. I have heard somewhere that Mac might be able to read RAW. Is this correct? If not do you have any solutions?
Thank you- Asked by Noel- Jung Woo- P

AnswerYou can install Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) on your Mac and then do Software Updates (under the Apple Menu) to bring it up to OS 10.6.8.
Lion (OS 10.7) is also supported by your Mac, but Mountain Lion (OS 10.8) is not supported.
If you plan to upgrade to Lion, you used to go to the App Store to download and install (or buy a flash drive with the Lion installer on it). To access the App Store you had to have at least OS 10.6.6 already installed. However, Lion is no longer at the App Store and one needs to call Apple Customer Service to get it.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve
