Will I be able to upgrade my system to sync my new Ipad 32gb w/retina display and Ipod Touch 4th gen? I currently have osx 10.4.11. I plan on buying snow leopard and then upgrading again. Is this even possible?- Asked by Daniel H

AnswerProvided that you have at least 5GB spare disk space, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard with your current configuration. Once you have Snow Leopard installed and fully updated to version 10.6.8, you can then use iTunes 11 to sync with your iPad and iPod Touch.
However, you cannot upgrade to Lion unless you install more RAM. Lion requires a minimum of 2GB, and will run better if you give it more. My MacBook 2,1 has 4GB installed (although it can only address 3GB), and it runs Lion very smoothly.- Answered by Rodney W from Niddrie

AnswerYou must buy the snow leopard install disc then install it, you should keep your files. Go to software update and update to the latest version (10.6.8). Reboot and go to Mac App Store and purchase Lion ($29.99). Mount the .dmg and click on the Install Mac OSX Lion.app, then install and reboot. Use software update once again to update to 10.7.4

i am running mountain lion but need snow leopard to run pro tools is it possible to keep both operating systems

AnswerThe easiest way to achieve this is to add a partition your hard drive to take Snow Leopard. You can do this with Disk Utility, assuming you have enough free space to do so. Allow about 10Gb for a basic Snow Leopard installation, and then add whatever Pro Tools needs and use the result as a minimum partition size.
This is non-destructive—you can add the partition without any need to format the drive—so you can do it on your main drive without losing data. It may take a long time to accomplish depending on how much free space there is on the drive. It would be wise to ensure you have a current backup before proceeding.
You can find detailed instructions for adding partitions in OSX elsewhere on the web.

I have an old iMac running 10.5.8. I just bought my son a MacBook that runs 10.6.6. Can I use his install disk to upgrade my older machine to 10.6?
- Asked by Peter B from Denver

Best AnswerIt depends. If your iMac is an iMac G5 or G4 ("Luxo lamp"), then no, 10.5.8 is the last version of Mac OS those models will run. If your iMac has an Intel processor, then YES, all Intel iMacs can run Snow Leopard.
To find out for sure, choose About This Mac from the Apple menu, then click More Info. If the "Model Identifier" is listed as "iMac4,1" or anything higher (iMac4,2 or iMac5,1 for example) then you have an Intel iMac.- Answered by Donald J from Vancouver

I have OS X 10.5.8 and I want to run Final Cut Pro X 10.0.3 (which needs OS X 10.6.8) - will it (FCP X) run if I download OSX 10.6?
- Asked by Asif Z from Richmond

Best AnswerAll versions of OS10.6 can (and should) be Software Updated to OS10.6.8 (that is the most up-to-date version of OS10.6). Once you have Snow Leopard (OS10.6) installed simply select Software Updates from the Apple Menu to update to 10.6.8.
Unfortunately, OS10.6 (Snow Leopard) cannot be downloaded. You must install via an Installation Disk. Snow Leopard requires an Intel-based Mac, so make sure that's what you have before purchasing.
Final Cut Pro 10.0.3 must have either OS10.6.8 (or OS10.7.2 or later). OS10.7 and OS10.7.1 are not supported.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Best AnswerIf your MacBook Pro is Intel-based, here is what you can do.
1) Create a blank new partition for Snow Leopard. Perhaps borrow an external hard drive and clone all files from the internal partition with Tiger to the external HD, making sure you can start up Tiger from the external HD if needed. Then you can install Snow Leopard to the internal HD.
2) All Snow Leopard DVDs (including those advertised as upgrades) can do a Clean Install. Follow these instructions:
macsDOTaboutDOTcom/od/snowleopardmacosx106/qt/cleaninstall_sl.htm
(replace each "DOT" with ".")
3) Sometime during the install, the installer will ask if you want to import your OS Settings, Applications and/or Files from the partition with Tiger on it. Do this.
4) Once you restart in Snow Leopard, do a software update to bring Snow Leopard up to the latest version.
5) After Step 3, all your applications and iTunes music, etc will be ready to use in Snow Leopard.
I followed these steps when moving from Tiger to Snow Leopard using the $29 install disk. Other than some printer drivers, a scanner utility and a minor issue with MS Word 2004... everything worked immediately. I had to find my own driver updates for some really oddball, obscure printers I have.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I have mac OSx 10.5.8 can I buy any upgrades I would like to run lion. Can someone tell me what I need to do?
- Asked by Nancy H from Marble Rock

Best AnswerFirst, in order to run Lion, make sure your Mac has an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor. You also need at least 2GB of memory and 7GB of Hard Drive space. You also need to first upgrade to Snow Leopard (OS10.6.6 or later) in order to download and install Lion (buy Snow Leopard DVD ($29), install and do Software Updates from the Apple Menu until you reach OS10.6.8).
Once you are running OS 10.6.8, then go to the online Apple Store and purchase and download Lion, and install.
Be prepared to update third party software once you install Lion. Lion discontinues "Rosetta" support for applications that are not native to Intel processors, so older applications (such as Microsoft Office 2004) will not run under Lion.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

How can I download snow leopard software if my cd driver doesn't work?
My cd driver stopped working almost since I bought my mac computer (it was around three years ago) since most of the updates have been on line I haven't missed the cd driver. But now that I want to upgrade my computer to snow leopard it seems that I can't do it without a cd.
Do you recommend another method of installation?
Please advice.
Thanks.- Asked by Jose H from Guelph

Best AnswerI went to the apple store the other day with the same question - if you show them a proof of purchase for snow leopard, they can update your computer through a USB instead of using the CD.

is Mac OS X 10.6.8 leopard or snow leopard?
- Asked by Valentina C from New York

Best AnswerJust look at the first two number sets. The third set of numbers are the update versions within an OS release. (eg: 10.6.8 is the 8th update for 10.6; 10.4.11 is the 11th update for 10.4)
10.7 = Lion
10.6 = Snow Leopard
10.5 = Leopard
10.4 = Tiger
10.3 = Panther
10.2 = Jaguar
10.1 = Puma
10.0 = Cheetah
OSX Beta = Kodiak- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve
