Does Snow Leopard work on my 2.4 GHz MacBook?
I have a 2.4GHz Aluminum MacBook and I want to upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard? I am not sure if it will work, if it doesn't it would be such a waste of money.

Upgrade from Leopard to Snow Leopard require a clean install?
Macbook 13inch with Intel processor about 6mo old with ver 10.5.8 Tiger installed. Will a clean install be required, or does the standard install leave applications and data and just remove the old version and replace with the new 10.6 Snow Leopard version of the OSX?

First of all- when you say Tiger, I'm assuming that you mean Leopard. If you have all of your serials, licenses, etc. do a clean install. It's best for the machine. If you don't however, do standard. It will, yes, leave all of your files on the machine (just replace the system). Hope this helps.

Answer
Newer versions of Operating software run more efficiently. You will therefore benefit from speed hopefully at the least. However, do not simply upgrade because a newer version is available. If you have software that you bought with your current system configuration then it is not all guaranteed to work with the very latest version of Leopard. Make a cautious decision and you probably won't go wrong.

Answer
If you're talking about iMovie, iPhoto, iDVD, etc., no. These programs are in the iLife Suite. If you have your original grey disks, the iLife suite is included on these disks. Or if you purchased iLife as a standalone, then obviously you can just reinstall from this. The only applications that come part of snow leopard are Safari, iChat, Photobooth, Mail, and other utilities.

If I have leopard installed, can I download mountain lion from a friends computer using my own apple id, and do a clean install on my own computer?
I friend of mine has leopard installed to his laptop. Can he skip the upgrades to snow leopard and lion by downloading mountain lion from my computer using his own apple id to do a clean install on his own laptop?
Why upgrade from leopard to an outdated snow leopard operating system, then to another outdated lion, when he can just do a clean install of mountain lion over his previous leopard?
My thinking was he could download mountain lion thru apple from my computer using his own apple id, then do a clean install of mountain lion over leopard on his own computer.- Asked by Bill J from Mentor

Answer
Technically, this is possible, provided his system meets the base requirements for Mountain Lion. However, you need to be very confident technically. There are some articles around on the net which can guide you.
A few things to note:
1) The upgrade path is: Snow Leopard -> Mountain Lion. There is no need to install Lion to get Mountain Lion.
2) From a licensing perspective, I think that he needs to purchase Snow Leopard.
3) An in place upgrade will preserve his files, installed applications and settings. A clan install will require that he reinstall any applications that he currently has installed - which can take hours.- Answered by Rodney W from Niddrie

Best Answer
Provided your hardware meets the minimum system requirements, you must purchase 10.6 before you can install 10.7. You can not skip 10.6 to install 10.7.
10.6 (Snow Leopard) requires any intel based mac with 1 gb of memory,
10.7 (Lion) requires a mac with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor processor and 2gb of memory. OS 10.6.6 or above must already be installed.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

What upgrades are available for my Mac mini? It is the G4 processor.
- Asked by Bradley H from Sartell
- May 16, 2012

Answer
Unfortunately, Snow Leopard does not support the G4 (PowerPC) processor. It will only support Intel-based Macs.
The furthest you can go is OS 10.5 (Leopard), but only if your G4 processor is 867Mhz or faster. But that install disk is hard to find, and was about $129. If you call Apple, they "might" still have a disk in their "Legacy Store" or through "AppleCare".- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

I have Mac OS X Snow Leopard, Version 10.6.3 on my Mac HD. Can I upgrade from that to OS X Lion?

Read the specifications for Lion carefully and make sure your Mac has a processor that matches the specifications. You also must do software updates to OS10.6.8 in order to install Lion (go to the Apple Menu and select Software Updates).
If you are using older software, be advised that Lion discontinues support for Rosetta. This means any older software not written specifically for the Intel chip will not run in Lion. Including Microsoft Office 2004 and Adobe Creative Suite 2. Even if you have later versions of software, there may be some issues with some software features. Check your software websites for possible compatibility issues with OS10.7 (Lion).
My advice when doing any major upgrade of system software, is to clone the partition with your current OS, and then upgrade one of the clones to the new OS. This way, if something goes wrong, or you want to jump back to the old OS, you simply press OPTION as the Mac starts up, and select the partition with the older OS to start up from.- Answered by Ewald W from Vancouve

Will upgrading to Snow Leopard erase my hard drive?
When I upgraded my iBook G4 from Tiger to Leopard, it erased my hard drive, taking all my applications, documents, and music with it.
Will upgrading to Snow Leopard do the same thing?- Asked by James G from Lincoln
- Oct 14, 2009

Best Answer
No. Snow Leopard does a standard upgrade install, preserving all of your personal data and applications, unless you specifically tell it to do an Erase & Install.
Of course, it is always a good idea to make backups, especially when doing something as significant as an OS upgrade.
Keep in mind your iBook G4 will not support Snow Leopard, if that is the Mac you plan on upgrading.- Answered by Mike B from Roswell
