how do you connect the iPad to a TV to watch movies?
I want to be able to watch tv and movies on the iPad but also be able to play them on my TV as well. I see a lot of things I can't do with this connector. Is there a way to do this with something else?

Best AnswerYou can do it three ways...
1. S-Video/Composite cable from apple
2. VGA Cable from Apple
3. Wireless to Apple TV- Answered by Tripp Y from Bluffton

Answer
Not this version of the cable as the iPad mini does not have a 30 pin connector. You can get a version of the cable though that has the lightening connector that does work with the iPad mini.

will this work on iPhone 5?
I'm about to get my iPhone 5 - so I need to know whether mirroring works perfectly on iPhone 5 - and I mean mirroring: no special apps needed, showing whole screen and all apps and games I want to share on big screen. Will it work?

what is the difference between vga adapter and the av cable

Best AnswerThe Apple VGA Adapter is designed to connect your iPad to a monitor, TV or projector using a VGA cable. This is an older type of connection but still common on many projectors sold today. A VGA connection can only carry a video signal. Another limitation of VGA is its lack of support for HDCP - 'High Definition Copy Protection' - which prevents the playback of some movies (for example movies rented or purchased from the iTunes store) on an external display.
The Apple Digital AV Adapter allows you to connect you iPad to a monitor, TV, projector or home theatre system using an HDMI cable. HMDI carries both a video and audio signal, and supports HDCP, making it ideal for playback of rented or purchased movies from the iTunes store. This adapter also includes a 30-pin dock connector to which you can connect a USB charging cable, allowing you to charge your iPad at the same time as using the adapter.- Answered by Chris L

Will this display to an LCD projector if I have Keynote on my iPad?

AnswerYes.
Keynote also shows a "presenter console" with the next slide, your notes and a timer. Very useful combination for presentations without a laptop. KB PH3489 has all the details.- Answered by Genrich S from Berlin

Can I display iPod touch apps on the Smartboard?
- Asked by B. S from Chilliwack
- Sep 23, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes you can...as long as you are running the new iOS 5 operating system.
Turn on the SMART Board, unplug the projector cable from your computer, then attach the VGA Adapter to it and plug the adapter into your iPod Touch.
Now you can view, demo, and discuss apps on the SMART Board.
Just remember that you or your students will only be able to control the app with the iPod Touch. You can't use the SMART Board's touch capabilities for that.- Answered by Jonathan W from Troy Mills

Can I use this to show apps to the children in my class through a multimedia projector?
- Asked by Darren R

AnswerThe first answer to this question is completely inaccurate. Any iPad that is model iPad 2 or later, as well as iPhone 4S or later, will mirror the display. I have tested and confirmed this with an iPad 2 and iPhone 4S. Any and all apps will mirror to the external display through the Apple 30-pin to VGA adapter with these newer devices - no Apple TV required.

Does the iBooks app support video output with the VGA adapter? I'd love to use that application as a presentation tool for PDFs.
- Asked by Reid S from Minneapolis
- Jun 28, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerShort answer is No. In my testing I got no VGA output from iBooks.
Only default applications I got output from were Photos (but only in slideshow mode, not when manually browsing) and Videos (again, only when watching, not when browsing).
So other than downloading/buying another application you could try converting your presentation to work with one of those two.- Answered by Steven P from Avalon Beach

Netflix
I have the 1st generation IPad and 4s phone. Which adapter do I need to watch Netflix movies on my TV from my IPad or phone? I have a 1080 HDMI TV
- Asked by Carey M from Mckinney

AnswerI just bought the 30-pin to VGA Adapter for my iPad 2. I am able to stream Netflix from my iPad over to my large HD TV using a VGA cable and the 30pin to VGA Adapter. My HD TV has a VGA connection capability so granted yours does as well you will need a) 1 VGA Male to Male cable (Pretty cheap in-store and online such as on Amazon) b) Apple 30-pin to VGA Adapter.
Really hope this helped as it is amazing to see your iPad screen (in your case iPhone as well) on such a large screen!- Answered by Quinton D from Surrey
