how do you connect the iPad to a TV to watch movies?
I want to be able to watch tv and movies on the iPad but also be able to play them on my TV as well. I see a lot of things I can't do with this connector. Is there a way to do this with something else?

Simply connect The ipad dock connecter to VGA adapter. But this is the least of your worries. The adapter connects easily, you can watch SOME videos, YouTube, previews of movies from iTunes store BUT when it comes to watching downloaded movies, you may not be able to do so. The type of movie or video is important and Apple does not gove specifics unfortunately. So if you can, do not connect your ipad to your TV, watch whatever you want to on your ipad and save your money instead.

the best 720p, 1080i vga portable projectors for the money are the Samsung p400 & p410. LED bulb, 40 watt, ~20,000 hr bulb life (that's like 10 yrs if used 5 hrs/day). I use one with my mac mini and elgato eyetv as my entertainment center TV. It's awesome, trust me.

The Apple VGA Adapter is designed to connect your iPad to a monitor, TV or projector using a VGA cable. This is an older type of connection but still common on many projectors sold today. A VGA connection can only carry a video signal. Another limitation of VGA is its lack of support for HDCP - 'High Definition Copy Protection' - which prevents the playback of some movies (for example movies rented or purchased from the iTunes store) on an external display.
The Apple Digital AV Adapter allows you to connect you iPad to a monitor, TV, projector or home theatre system using an HDMI cable. HMDI carries both a video and audio signal, and supports HDCP, making it ideal for playback of rented or purchased movies from the iTunes store. This adapter also includes a 30-pin dock connector to which you can connect a USB charging cable, allowing you to charge your iPad at the same time as using the adapter.- Answered by Chris L

Can I display iPod touch apps on the Smartboard?
- Asked by B. S from Chilliwack
- Sep 23, 2011

Best Answer
Yes you can...as long as you are running the new iOS 5 operating system.
Turn on the SMART Board, unplug the projector cable from your computer, then attach the VGA Adapter to it and plug the adapter into your iPod Touch.
Now you can view, demo, and discuss apps on the SMART Board.
Just remember that you or your students will only be able to control the app with the iPod Touch. You can't use the SMART Board's touch capabilities for that.- Answered by Jonathan W from Troy Mills

How do you output video from your iPad to a TV or Projector, while working within Citrix session?
I want to use the Citrix client on my iPad and then be able to out put to VGA, Composite, or component.
- Asked by Shane W from Troy
- Oct 30, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
The original iPad does not support this functionality, only using video output. The iPad 2 will mirror your screen to a projector, HD television or external monitor using the Apple VGA adapter which will mirror your iPad (2) to a VGA projector or monitor. The Apple Digital AV adapter will also mirror your iPad (2) to an HD television. Again, the original iPad does not support mirroring, so Citrix cannot be viewed but you can use an iPad 2 to output a mirrored image of your session.

First, it is important to understand that with this adapter you are connecting a 2nd display to your iPad. From this point it is up to the app developer to decide if and what will be displayed on this 2nd display when you launch the app.
At this time, the following apps will use the 2nd display:
- keynote - when you shown a presentation
- video - when you play a video
- Photos - when you run a photo slideshow
- Youtube - when you play a youtube video
In all these cases the 2nd display will show the object when you start playing it.
Other apps can follow and offer their support for a 2nd display using this connector since this is part of the iPhoneOS SDK.
As you can understand there is NO mirroring of the iPad primary display.- Answered by Yossef M from Brookline

iPad 1 only supports video out, not video mirroring. Only the iPad 2 supports video mirroring due to the graphical demands (I guess).

To do it wirelessy you need to buy the $99 Apple Tv and upgrade your iPad to IOS 5. It is not possible for a Macbook Pro. If you are thinking of the Apple TV look at refurbished at the Apple online store, you can get them cheaper.

Best Answer
You can't load Office to create new documents; instead, you would use Pages (Word equivalent), Numbers (Excel-like), and Keynote (like PowerPoint).
However, you CAN open, view and project Office documents you created on your computer on and through your iPad. You need a) a projection app and b) an adapter to project content onto your TV or through a projector to a screen. One app that let's you do this is, appropriately, called Projector. Another is called Expedition. (You could also try Web-to-VGA, but I think it's just for projecting webpages... must go back and double-check...)
Load the app, then load the file, plug in the iPad-to-VGA or iPad-to-component adapter, plug in to your TV or projector, open your document in the projection app of your choice (yes, you can open Office documents), and away you go.
Make sure you do some practice runs the first time.
Hope this helps!
