Can you use the Airport Express system to link to play music straight through from the Iphone to a normal hifi that only has a standard audio input?
I have a speaker system that only has an audio stereo cable input (left right stereo cable) and want to be able to play music through the wifi to this speaker set. Is this possible?
The base system doesn't seem to have the required outputs to make this happen.

Yes, you can. The AirPort Express Base Station has a 2.5mm headphone audio-out port. By purchasing a 3rd-party 2.5mm "headphone-to-RCA" cable, it will be able to plug into your speaker system.

USB 3.0?
With the new Macs sporting USB 3.0, does the new base station have it, or is it just 2.0?

Best Answer
it is 2.0 but 3.0 would be wasted on a wireless connection because of the slow speed of 802.11n

Do you have to pay anything like a monthly fee for the internet?

Best Answer
As a general rule, yes. If you connect the AirPort Express Base Station, or any other router, to the Internet, in order to then have wireless (or wired) Wi-Fi access to it from your computer or other devices, then sure, someone has to be paying a subscription charge for that connection You'd normally first sign up as a customer of an internet provider, such as Comcast, Verizon, RCN, AT&T, Time Warner, many others, usually paying a monthly fee. Then, you'll need to connect a cable modem to the Airport Express Base Station, and then you'll be able to communicate with it from your wireless or wired device (computer). But since you were able to get on the internet to ask this question, you've been connecting to it through someone else's paid connection via some internet provider. If you've been doing it wirelessly up to now, it is possible that you've been using a connection that someone else in your area has been paying for, and you've just been using it without their permission/without paying for it. Or perhaps you've been using an internet connection that is sometimes bought from internet providers by local towns, by stores (such as Starbucks), or maybe your school. In those cases, you've been using that location's router instead of your own router (such as an AirPort Express) to connect to the Internet. I hope that helps, and maybe someone else can jump in to clarify further.

Can the new AirPort Express extend an existing network with an ethernet cable from AirPort Extreme to Express's WAN port?
Can the new (June 11 2012) AirPort Express Base Station extend an existing network by connecting an ethernet cable from an AirPort Extreme to the Express's WAN port, thereby making the Express both a wireless access point and also an ethernet port via its LAN part?

Yes, you just have to turn off the DHCP server (I think it's called "Off, bridge mode" - BTW, that's complete networking nonsense). I have it like that with the original Express and it works like a charm :) And if you have static IPs (if you don't know what that means - you don't) you have to set them up on the Extreme.

is this a wireless network?

No. A wireless network has two parts: Internet service that terminates in a modem supplied by your service provider (cable, DSL, or satellite, company) and a wireless access point, which lets you connect to the Internet over wifi. Sometimes the modem has wifi built in.
This is just the second part. It won't give you a wireless network by itself, but if you have Internet access it will give you wifi access or extend your existing network. It also lets you play music wirelessly (AirPlay), although some people have trouble making this feature work consistently.- Answered by Martin M from Oakland

Can I extend the range of a Belkin-based wifi network?
Where I live we have a wifi network with a Belkin modem. The signal is very weak in my area. Could a new Airport be used to extend the range? I have an older Airport Express and Airport, but when I have tried to use them to accomplish this, it seems they are not compatible with non-Apple modems. Is the new Airport Express different in this regard?

When using the express as a WiFi extension from the Extreme base station. Can Ethernet port be used?
With a baby on the way I have searched for a video baby monitor that will work best with all my iOS devices. The iBaby video monitor seemed the best fit. It needs to be hardwired directly into a modem in order for it to broadcast the video signal over WiFi. To avoid running Ethernet into the room I would prefer to use the Express to extend the WiFi from my Airport Extreme base station. But will then need to use the Express Ethernet wired connection for the monitor. Is this possible?

Existing wifi network - connection to speakers and sky boy
I have a wifi network in my house, powered by a wireless router next to my telephone socket.
In a totally different room, I have some ipod speakers and a sky box next to each other. The existing wifi signal is strong here.
What I want to do is:
1) Play music from iPhone iTunes over wifi to the existing speakers and
2) Connect my sky box to the internet via its Ethernet port.
Can I do this using a AirPort Express Base Station?- Asked by William J

Yes that will work for you.
Just make sure to run the setup utility when you get the Airport Express so that it joins the existing network (more reliable to just join it than try and join and extend the network) and to enable the AirPlay function.- Answered by Ian D
