Will the Airport function as a router with a dongle/broadband stick from another country inserted in its USB port so I can pickup broadbands services?
I would like to be able to use two iPads at one time when my wife and I are traveling.
- Asked by Mark K from Omaha

Answer
No, the USB port is only intended to be used to connect a printer and therefore share the printer over the wireless network. If you plug any other USB device in the USB port, the Airport Express will simply not recognize the device.

How do I use Airport express in a hotel that only has an ethernet connection and which needs me to log on to pay for the service.
Sometimes when I go to a hotel they only have an ethernet cabel and then you have to log on and pay for the internet service. Just to be clear ... if I plug the ethernet plug into the airport express does that stream the connection to my mac or ios device for me to log on and pay.

Best Answer
It is just plug and play. Simply set up the network name and a password to prevent you neighbours using your service and away you go. I have used this in many hotels around the world. Some hotels do however set the network up to prevent multiple devices connecting meaning that you can no longer connect an iPhone, iPad and mac to the same line without multiple device charges. Other than that this is excellent in my experience.

Can I use an airport express as a bridge/repeater of an existing wi-fi network. The root bridge is a linksys.
- Asked by Michael M from Oakland
- Sep 9, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
Yes. if you connect it via the wired ethernet port to your router then it will act as a bridge/repeater offering you a further access point to choose from. Depending on where in the house I am, the signal strengths between my Netgear Router and the Airport Express differ so I connect to the strongest one. I bought the Express primarily to stream music wireless from my iTunes library but it also served as a bridge / repeater as a second benefit.

Can I use the 2nd wireless band exclusively for audio streaming inside the network?
- Asked by Carl E from San Carlos
- Jun 11, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
In theory you could if you setup whatever device will be streaming on one band and all other devices on another band. However this is highly unnecessary. Audio uses so little bandwidth that you should have no issue or slowdown from steaming on any band.

Yes. This product is a wireless router, so by plugging it into the wired network they have, you can create a wireless hotspot with this product to have internet access on your iPad along with other wireless devices.

Does airport express have digital input?
Does the airport express have a digital input as well as analogue input? I want to connect to my digital surround sound system with optical cable, is this possible with airport express or will i need to buy apple tv unit? Cheers guys

Best Answer
You can connect either analogue miniature jack, or an optical cable. The optical plug to the AE must be the mini Toslink size and the end for your stereo the normal Toslink size, or whatever your system requires. The design of the AE jack is ingenious, in that it accepts either the analogue or digital plug and both work fine, I have tried it....good luck.

Is it possible to stream music at 24/192 via the new airport express using the optical output

Best Answer
Kenneth has a very simple question that very few people understand unfortunatelly. I wondered about this myself, because I would very much be able to stream hi-res audio via AE. I ended up calling Apple Support to get a straight answer. After waiting on the phoneline and eventually be put trough to a person that should have been able to answer, he really did not understand the question. But eventually he was able to ask a colleage and the answer was clear! NO, the new AE is not technically upgraded, same resolution as before 16-bit wordlenght and samplerate "locked" to 44,1kHz. So Apple confirmed Apple TV still has the edge with 16/48, but it dont do much difference for me.
I bought the new AE later only because the the extra ethernet port, that was practical for me so I could connect my Apple TV to new AE LAN port.
And I can confirm the new AE still is 16/44, I see the sample rate on my DAC. If the audio from my computer is 24/96.... AE will still down sample to 16/44 as always..too bad!!

AirPrint works only with AirPrint printers, and none of those need this. AirPrint Printers can be found on the left sidebar of the online store under the title for iPad.

How does this compare with the current Airport Express for travel in terms of weight, voltages and extra cords?
- Asked by G Allen H from Phoenix
- Jun 25, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
The weight of this current model Express is slightly greater than the older version. The new Airport Express does has an external power cord unlike the the older model. This prevents the Express from being directly plugged in to the wall.

No. You would need the Airport Extreme to share a disk over USB, or a Time Capsule if you want to do over-the-air Time Machine backups.
