Best AnswerNo. In order for a iPad and iPhone to print to a printer the printer must be an AirPrint compatible printer.

Can the USB port be used for an external hard-drive that I could share over the network?
- Asked by Jan G from Highland Park

Best AnswerNegative. Apple's specs page informs me the USB port is printers only. For sharing a hard drive, you'd want to look at the AirPort Extreme instead.

I don't really know what the function for this is, do I need a internet service from a company or is this what gives me the internet ?
- Asked by Francisco H from Birmingham
- Feb 24, 2013

AnswerYou need to subscribe to internet service through a separate internet service provider. The Airport Express broadcasts your internet signal wirelessly so you can connect to the internet without plugging in. It also allows you to stream music wirelessly to connected speakers, and will allow you to print wirelessly to connected printers.

I have the US version. Can it be used in the United Kingdom 220volt using a 220 volt adapter?
Airport express base station
- Asked by Peter T from Lancaster
- Jan 2, 2013

AnswerUpdate:The airport itself will work with the 220v as it has a duel voltage transformer , But the cord is only rated for 120 so if you can get a cord that has the same end to plug into the airport then it would work fine. However I doubt that the cord included is only rated for 120 they probably use the same wire for the uk with a different plug, so you could give it a try just make sure the cord and plug don't seem hotter than normal when on 220v.

Can I use base station as a piggy back from my router? i.e. router in one room and base station in another room?
I have a Sky Router which is in one place which I cannot change (I am in a 1420 listed Property). Nor can I fit any printer to it; I have no space there. So I want to use Base station remotely in another room. I need to how and if it can be done. Thanks!

Can this be used to speed up an Apple TV connection?
My landlord's wireless router is only 802.11b, whilst this is okay for their internet access (which is only 4Mbps) it means that when I am trying to use home sharing on Apple TV the connection is really bad. Can I attach this by ethernet cable to the existing router and stream from iTunes on my MacBook Air to Apple TV at a much faster rate or will the wireless network it creates be restricted by the internet download speed?

AnswerWith any network (wireless or hard wired), the whole system is only as fast as the slowest part as it acts like a bottle neck.
In your case, if the music or show is already downloaded onto your Mac, then it sounds like you may be on your limits distance wise from the router and it is cutting in and out. If signal strength is good, and you are streaming, then adding the Express won't change anything.
To check this out before splashing out your hard earned money, hard wire your components utilising a LAN cable (CAT5 or similar) and if it is improved, then it is the wireless network that is acting as the weak point.
Short answer, if streaming and hard wired you still have issues, then Express won't do anything for you. If it is good, buy it as it will help. My thoughts without knowing exact details, upgrade the internet plan.- Answered by Peter C from Swanbourne

can i replace my existing wifi modem with an airport express base station?
i was just wondering because my existing wifi modem is only 802.11bg while the airport express base station is 802.11n

Best AnswerNo, the Airport is not a modem. It is a router. That means you have to plug from your existing modem into the Airport. The purpose of the Airport is to convert your wired modem into a wireless signal. If you already have a combo modem/wifi router then this device will not replace it. It may be capable of boosting your signal strength if you are having a weak wifi signal in your home though. NOTE: research compatibility of the devices first.

Is this router considered a MIMO router?
- Asked by Kelly H from Beaver
- Jun 25, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerYes it is MIMO. MIMO technology is somewhat "elusive". Typically, people think that a MIMO device has to have numerous antenna. Which, is true in the respect that a TRUE mimo device can separate signals or data streams into prioritized bandwidths. The airport is capable of 802.11 (a,b,g,n). It doesn't have nasty looking antennae arrays like some routers.
The only thing about the express is it tends to be a bit directional, in my experiences. So you may have to try different locations. And, it is a "wall wart". I do not use mine as wall warts. I have them on power strips, hidden out of sight on shelves.
Typically, the higher up in the house, the more omni directional it will be.
It tends to run "warm" to the touch. More-so than it's big brothers, the Airport Extreme and Time Machine. I think they run WARM because they have so many features packed into such a SMALL package.
It gives great service, plug and play for CHEAP. Less than $100 usually. Extremely versatile and is a tiny little thing.
I have two. And use them constantly. With no issues.- Answered by Bill B from Red Oak

Answer
Absolutely! THe Extreme can wirelessly extend to another wireless router (Bridge mode). As long as you enable ETHERNET. THe additional router (such as Airport Express) makes stronger wireless signal over the entire dwelling or office, and then allows you to use the ethernet port and the USB port, such as, a network printer or shared drive Or another PC or whatever. Highly recommend it. Two extremes together would give you 8 Ethernet ports in addition to multiple wireless clients. Depending on your ISP; where I am, is fibre optic. I think it allows 67 or so?? Can't remember. But plenty. I've used this setup extensively in different locations. Seamless, and easy to set up. Can't go wrong with apple equipment in my humble opinion. Cheers!
