Can the new AirPort express share / extend a WiFi connection ?
The new AirPort Express has a WAN connection to share ethernet, can it also share / extend a Wireless network, for instance to be used as a portable router whilst travelling ?

Can I plug an ethernet-only wired device into an Airport Express so it can connect to my network?
I have a Cisco IP telephone that requires a wired Ethernet connection. I need to install it away from my primary Airport Extreme router. Can I use the Express to serve as a wired to wireless bridge? Thanks!

I have done this with a macbook so, yes, it can act as a bridge. However, I couldn't say for certain that your equipment would work in this way.

Can the AirPort Express Base Station replace a modem ?
My modem is kind of old and the internet is extremely slow, brings me flash back od the Dial up days. can i replace my old modem with a AirPort Express Base Station and will it work with no complications ?

No. The Airport Express is not a modem, it is a wireless router. You have to connect it to your existing modem.
If you have a problem with your internet speeds you should contact your ISP. An Airport Express will not solve your problem.- Answered by Rachel S from Seattle

Is the speed of the Wi-Fi limited to 100mbps if i use the 10/100 mbps wan port to connect to the internet?
Hello all,
I plan on using this router in my college dorm, which offers wi-fi speeds of around 150mbps. Will the speed of the Wi-fi be limited to a maximum of 100mbps when I connect an ethernet cable from my modem to the wan port? In other words, will the speed of the wifi and therefore my connection to the internet be limited by the slower ethernet input ( 10/100 input port)/

Your WiFi network will operate at whatever max speed it can, based on the type of WiFi you choose, local interference, distance between your devices, etc. So if you have two computers on the WiFi talking to each other, all is good.
However, when a computer wants to access the Internet, it will be limited by the max rate of your Internet connection.- Answered by Paul N from Ottawa

Can the USB port be used for an older iMac computer running 10.4.11 and wifi be used for a laptop running the current OSX?

I got my answer at the Apple Store. It works if directly connecting the old 10.4.11 computer through the ethernet connection.

No, you can only extend a wifi network that originates from Apple equipment - Time capsule, Airport Extreme/Express. You can use it to join a BT Home Hub wifi network in order to provide AirPlay in a remote location or for ethernet internet access for a device that does not have wifi. Ive tested this with a BT Home Hub 3.

Play Videos, Play YouTube, Use Quick Time, Or Use VLC?
Hi there,
I understand that this can wirelessly stream audio using the iTunes airplay feature...
BUT can it also stream other forms of audio (when watching a movie in VLC, when watching a movie in quicktime, or when surfing the internet).

Yes. Some Apps have the Airplay audio selection of iPad, Airport Express or Apple TV etc whichever you have available, integrated into the app, for others, you can change the output in iTunes, and the audio from whatever app you are using is redirected from the iPad speakers to the selected output.
For example, I watch some TV shows in bed using the iPad and a TV Network's own App, and direct the surround sound to my receiver for terrific audio.- Answered by Rod N from Surrey

Apple doesn't recommend specific ADSL modems for use with the base station. Any standard ADSL modem with an Ethernet port should be compatible (you cannot connect the modem to the base station via USB). If you're not able to use the AirPort Express Base Station with a particular ADSL modem/configuration, it is unlikely that you would be able to use any other wireless base station with that modem and configuration.

Sorry but it cannot. Apple says that the "AirPort Express can extend the range only of an AirPort Extreme, AirPort Express, or Time Capsule wireless network."

I had the same question and was surprised no one had answered yours, so I went looking for the answer. Here's the information from the set-up guide in the support section for the Airport Express:
If you connect AirPort Express to your stereo or powered speakers, you can use AirPlay to play music from iTunes on any computer or from an iOS device on your network.
To set it up:
Connect the Audio Out port on your AirPort Express to your home stereo or powered speakers. Use a digital fiber optic cable, an analog mini-stereo-to dual-RCA cable, or a mini-stereo to mini-stereo cable, depending on what type of connectors your stereo uses.
Note: You cannot use USB speakers with your AirPort Express. Use powered speakers with a stereo mini-jack connector.- Answered by Dr David H from Severn

Yes, you will just have to change the mode of the base station to the desired mode. (extender, bridge or as a wifi access point).

No, you will not have to pay any more for your Internet connection. The Airport Express takes the Internet connection that you already pay for and makes it wireless (aka "wi-fi").
The Airport Express also allows you to connect a printer to it via USB, powered speakers via a headphone-type plug and another Ethernet device (say, a computer that has no wireless ability) via an Ethernet cable.- Answered by Neil B from Victoria

Technical network question: can I use the Express with my current Airport Extreme, as a repeater with printer connected?
I currently have an airport extreme, which is very good at getting range throughout my very long unit (about 30 meters.)
I have my TV, XBOX, PC down one end.. and my iMac is down the other end. I had the Extreme set up in the middle of the house. So it turns out, my xbox360 along with the NBA App wont give me HD unless its plugged in, even if the wireless Extreme unit is sitting 5 inches away from the XBOX360 (I tested this). Highlights work fine, but actual games - na.
So I though I would move the extreme in the room with the XBOX 360 etc in it..
Anyway, surprisingly, down the other end of the house, the iMac works on the internet fine! The iPhone 5 also works well.(checked with speediest and can confirm that the iphone lost less than 10% at the end of the house! impressive :-) ) BUT when I look at the iMac network connection, it says the transmit signal is only 27 down from around 217. The internet is fine, but youtube has taken a hit.
My dilemma then, is that I need the printer connected to a wireless device so everything including our laptops can print. I also would not mind extending the range back out for the iMac.
So I am considering the Express to put in the middle of the house.
Questions:
1) If I have my modem plugged into the extreme, I assume I can use the express as an extender?
2) Can I plug the printer into the Extender, or in this case, the little express which will be used as an extender?
I sort of dont want the printer near the TV due to room issues, and would like to bring back the super quickness of the internet to the iMac.. Im not so fussed about the internet for the iMac, as its only YouTube which has taken a hit, everything else works great, which is amazing at such a long range.
