Can I use the Magic TrackPad on a 6 mo. old iMac & yr. old Mac Book at different times without setting it for both?

AnswerI don't see why it would be any different from a Bluetooth keyboard or mouse in this regard. In short, it can be shared, but if the computers are near to each other it requires temporarily turning off Bluetooth on the computer to which the device is currently attached.

Best AnswerThere is a setting available in the Accessibility section of Sytem Preferences which will enable the Magic Trackpad to function in the way you described. My grandfather has poor vision and the ease with which he can use this feature was what sold him on the switch to Mac.

Secondary click? Click to Drag with two fingers of both hands
On the MBP which has the same trackpad, I have to click on one corner with my finger of one hand and with my other hand I can drag either to highlight several items or drag and drop items or both. If you look the TrackPad options in the System Preference... it is called Secondary Click under One Finger. The reason I ask is the location of the trackpad would be on the right or left of the keyboard rather than in front if it were to replace the mouse. How does one achieve the Secondary Click with one hand?

Best AnswerYou just tap with two fingers. Spend a couple minutes looking through your system preferences and playing with different options and you’ll get a whole lot more out of your mac.

Can I mount it vertically?
I would like to use it in a classroom that has an interactive whiteboard (Epson BrightLink). While it seems the trackpad is intended for a horizontal orientation, I can see vertically mounting it next to the projecting screen to have the gestures capability. Would this type of mounting work? And, any ideas how to do it so as not to damage the trackpad?

Best Answer-Mount a 5.140" x 4.5" x 5/8" block of wood flat on the wall horizontally
-embed two or three small powerful magnets about 1/2" from the top edge of the block of wood, evenly spaced, facing outward
-glue 5" x 1/8" x 5/8" strips of wood to the left and right sides of the block of wood so you get two 1/2" tall horns to keep the Trackpad from sliding horizontally
-glue a 1" x 4 7/8" x 1/16" piece of steel to the back of the Magic Trackpad horizontally right next to the battery compartment
To use it:
-place the Magic Trackpad so the battery compartment hangs over the top edge of the block of wood (the magnets will hold in place)- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

How smooth is response with a Mac Pro?
I bought a magic mouse a while back that skipped and had very poor response with a Mac Pro. I exchanged it for a new one with no improvement and have no problem with the mouse when using it with my Macbook Pro. Others have had this problem and it is apparently due to poor bluetooth reception through the case of the Mac Pro and/or weak bluetooth signal from the magic mouse. I would really like to get a Magic Trackpad but am afraid I might have the same problem with it. Is anyone having this problem with the trackpad and a Mac Pro? Thanks.

AnswerI have been using a trackpad (MacPro 1,1 with a plug-in bluetooth) for a few months. It is very fun to slip along like a hummingbird when moving from place to place, yes, smooth as silk, for sure: at first, it was so smooth it sometimes picked up the odd folder and dropped it somewhere along its path without my even noticing! You develop a light touch.
My complaint is that it's not often possible to select a section of text and drag and drop it – at all, let alone where you want it (you can cut and paste).
There is no easy right-click, but you can work around that, too.
The fun aspect is definitely addicting, and I haven't seriously considered going back to my trackball. But I do use a Wacom pad for Photoshop and such where detail is required. I hope this is helpful.- Answered by Laurel R from Tomales

Answer
All Magic Trackpad features are listed on the Apple website.
Features are identical to the Trackpad on the new MacBooks but with an 80% bigger playing area.
At a glance features are on the support website article number kb/ht4273
Hope this helps.

Best Answer
Yes. This works the same as the MacBook Pro's trackpad, so the same types of character input are possible through the Magic Trackpad. This works through OS X, but you need to enable a preference in System Preference, just as you would for the MacBook Pro's trackpad.

does track pad work woth logic pro
- Asked by James B from Upper Marlboro
- Aug 9, 2010

AnswerI use the trackpad on my MBP with Logic Pro (I use 8, but assume 9 should be the same)
It does work with it. I use both the mouse and the track pad depending on what I am using.
I believe the only issue you will have is right clicking will require a holding down of a keyboard button while clicking, or to reach over and grab the mouse at that point. But it's been answered several times already that using all 3 works perfectly.
I intend to get one to use in addition to my mouse. I like using the trackpad better while browsing, then in logic though, it is useable, maybe just a personal preference.- Answered by James B from Fort Worth

Best AnswerThe Magic Trackpad functions exactly like the trackpad on the most recent MacBook and MacBook Pro with the most recent drivers. All multitouch gestures including the tap (tap to click) and double tap (two finger secondary tap). You can also click.
