So this could completely control my macbook if it was across teh room connected to my TV? I would have all the power of a mouse?
use the Trackpad to remotely control my Macbook connected to a TV.

AnswerYes, what you describe is exactly how I’m using mine. It’s perfect for home theater setups. You can use it as a mouse up to 30 feet. If you use the double tap gesture you can even click while the track pad is resting on a soft surface such as a pillow or couch cushion. I would recommend going into the Track Pad preferences to customize it to your needs.

Answer
Yes. Magic Trackpad uses the same Trackpad Preferences found in System Preferences and supports "Four Fingers" swiping Up/Down for Exposé and Left/Right to Switch Applications.

If someone had some kind of overlay or template could it be used as a numerical keypad?
- Asked by Doug & Karen S from Bellingham

AnswerThis is not the intended functionality of the trackpad--think of it as a larger version of the MacBook/MacBook Pro trackpad. However, it is possible that a third-party program exists which can do this--many exist for certain advanced features, but I don't know about this one.

Will it work with the iOS simulators in Apple Developer Tools?
- Asked by Thomas B from Arlington
- Jul 27, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerI just tested whether the Magic Trackpad works in iOS Simulator to emulate actually using the iPad, and no, it doesn't work. Depending on how you have the trackpad configured, scrolling alone requires 3-finger swipe, and there is no pinch-zoom or anything else. The Magic Trackpad is fun and I recommend it... just not for mobile emulation.

How does the battery life compare to that of the wireless keyboard? Does it have the same "sleep" function as the keyboard to preserve battery life?
Battery Life Comparison
- Asked by Dustin P from Lamar
- Jul 28, 2010

Best AnswerI'm answering my own question on this one... YES YES YES!!! It definitely does have the same feature as the wireless keyboard by Apple, going to sleep whenever I forget to turn it off. I wish this feature was on the mouse. Not sure why it wasn't. (After about 2.5 months, my keyboard battery is still at 100% and my Magic Mouse is at 40%!) But, I'm just so happy that I took the chance and purchased the trackpad and discovered that it has the feature I was hoping for. Not to mention have more capabilities than the magic mouse. I will be "raving" about this product on the reviews section, as well as to all my friends. You can see my full, hands-on review in the reviews section.

How well would it work for World of Warcraft?
Im using the magic mouse right now, and its really not the greatest thing for WoW. I was just wondering how the trackpad would be instead.
- Asked by Jace W from Tyler
- Feb 17, 2011

AnswerIt comes down to how you play WoW and the haptic (sense of touch) feedback you expect from your mouse (or trackpad).
If you found yourself scrolling past the thing you wanted to select with the Magic Mouse's "virtual" touch (as opposed to physical) scroll wheel, the Magic Trackpad will have the same problem because it has no haptic feedback (no notchy scroll wheel feedback that allows you to easily count how many items you scrolled though without watching the menu on the screen).
Right clicking is simple just tap with two fingers (but, you cannot chord left and right click together which some apps allow; or click with the virtual scroll wheel also used in many games).- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

Best AnswerApple should post the Windows (Vista and 7) drivers for Apple HW and peripherals;
they're available for Bootcamp on your Mac's install DVD(1).
Note:
(1) assuming you still have the original install/restore DVD (they do get lost and/or become outdated)
(2) it would be very helpful if there was a universal Windows driver DVD (or disk image) that contained all of the up-to-date Windows drivers for all intel macs and all current Apple mice, magic trackpad, and keyboards- Answered by Chris S from San Jose

Best AnswerNo. Mac OS X 10.6.4 (or higher when the time comes) is required. It will work with limited functionality in windows, providing that is on a Mac running Bootcamp.

Can you connect the Magic Trackpad to an external power source? eg. USB.
I know the Magic Trackpad runs on two AA batteries, but is there a way to connect it to a different power source such as an adapter or a USB cable so as to not have to worry about the batteries running out/having to recharge and replace them?

Best AnswerUse it without a mouse. I like using my trackpad on my MBP better than a mouse. Now I can have the magic trackpad as an external pad for us with my home theater computer, etc.

Answeryes, I threw away my usb and wireless mouse for the trackpad. Strongly recommend. It allows you much greater mobility and is easier on the hands and wrist. Just takes a few strokes to become proficient. It allows you to run your desktop or laptop like an iPad.

Best AnswerNo, you really miss a pen! A Pen is so much nicer to navigate, and because there is a combination of pen AND touch, the wacom is better.
