AnswerDepending on how it is configured in system preferences, you can either "tap to click" or actually click like you would on a MacBook(Pro) trackpad.

Is there any way to use this as a virtual numeric pad?
As an owner of the wireless keyboard, something I'm lacking is a non-obtrusive numeric pad. Is it (or will it be) possible to use the Magic Trackpad as a numeric pad as well?

Best AnswerNot sure if the Trackpad will be useable as a virtual numeric pad, but if you have an iPhone or iPod touch you need to check out NumberKey on the App Store. I use it regularly with my wireless keyboard - it's brilliant.

Is there one-touch access to spaces/windows like the Mighty Mouse could with the side and center push capability?
I currently am still with my Mighty Mouse. I very often use the side buttons and center-push option to access all of my windows and spaces quickly while doing data transfer/processing. Is there a way to program this quick access to windows and spaces into the trackpad, aside from using the active screen corners? I think that is the only thing I'll miss about my mouse.
- Asked by Jessica O from Sterling

Best AnswerThe Magic Trackpad uses the same multitouch gestures as the trackpads built into all MacBooks. While there is no way to activate Spaces via it, dragging four fingers downwards will active Exposé for all windows within the current space.

Best AnswerYou can use the Magic Trackpad along side a mouse or as a mouse itself. To manage your mouse, use the mouse pane in System Preferences. To manage your Magic Trackpad, use the trackpad pane.

Best AnswerI have a copy of Windows XP Pro installed through VirtualBox and the only feature I can see that works off multi-touch is the two-finger drag and being able to click with one finger and drag with another. The rest of the gestures are only supported on Mac systems because the software implements it.

Does this work like the screen of an IPAD?
- Asked by Albert M from Marlton
- Jul 27, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes and no.
Yes. It works like the screen of an iPad in that it is multitouch and recognizes such gestures.
However, no. The trackpad will not register spatial changes in your fingers location like it would on an iPad. The trackpad tracks motion but to track motion it requires constant contact. If you lift your finger, the onscreen cursor will wait for your finger to return to the trackpad. Once it does return, it will accept that location as the basis for continued movement much like repositioning a mouse when you run out of room to move the cursor in one direction.- Answered by Andrew T from Jordan

does the trackpad work with ipad 2 and wireless keyboard
- Asked by Sally H

Best AnswerThe wireless keyboard works with iPad - it support the play, fast forward and rewind keys. Although, it is not fully compatible (most of the F keys, eg. F11, do not have any function because they are intended for Mac use). I don't think the Trackpad itself would work with iPad 2, but the iPad is touch screen anyway so you would not really benefit from using it. Hope this helped.

What is the range of the Magic Trackpad?
I want to use the trackpad 30 feet away from my laptop (for when my laptop is plugged into a projector in the corner of the room). Will it respond quickly? My bluetooth mouse barely responds at that range.

Best AnswerI've tested it from a distance of 30 feet/10 metres and with two thick walls in between and the response seems as good as placing it next to the computer.

Click on scroll button?
I usually use the scroll as a button, pressing it on web browsers to open a link in a new tab. How can I do the same with Magic trackpad?
- Asked by Margarita S from Bogota
- Sep 18, 2010

Best AnswerI saw another answer instruct to "right-click" on the link, then select "Open Window in New Tab link on the text menu that appears.
Although this works, I have also found that pressing the Command key, along with a single click on the trackpad -- this works as well. This also cuts down on the number of clicks the user would have to make.- Answered by Kyle C from Sylacauga

What's this like for use on the arm of a sofa or cushion?
Especially when clicking/dragging/swiping/etc? Normally I use the one on the Macbook, but I sometimes plug the MacBook Pro into the TV and use a mouse/keyboard on my knee/leg/sofa! This Magic Trackpad might be far better, and at least I'd be able to swipe between spaces easier than my current middle mouse button to Mission Control shortcut. But equally it's quite expensive and it's not my normal usage scenario so I want to be very sure it'll click fine and really work nicely as I can't justify it if it's not that much better than my £5 mouse!

Best AnswerI've found the Magic Trackpad great for using my iMac from bed but the clicking is part of the 2 front feet. So unless the trackpad is resting on something firm you can't click it (unless you press those buttons yourself). I didn't find this a problem since I use tapping anyway but if you want clicking, it can't do it.

Can it have BOTH custom right click AND custom double click (in addition to single click)?
My main application requires lots of left button clicking, double clicking and right button clicking. These are variously combined with dragging. You can imagine the many different combinations not possible (or very tiring) with a standard mouse. I'm currently using the four-button Kensington Turbo Mouse. Would the MTP be a good replacement?

Best Answeri believe you can program your key combinations so that you can 'hold command + click track pad' and do something specific that would be different from the default result which is the same as two finger tap.
also you may want to create new combinations for your specific application such as 'hold control + hold 'z' + click track pad'- Answered by Reed T from Portland

It is almost exactly the same size as a CD-ROM envelope. If you have an Apple Wireless Keyboard, it is the same height.

Does it provide 3 button functionality for X11 (left, middle, right)?
X11 users need left, middle and right clicks.
The mighty mouse does not provide this intrinsically;
you have to install an application like MagicPrefs.

Best AnswerYes, it will. You need to be at OS X 10.6.4 at least, which includes the graphics drivers for it. I use mine with my 2010 27" iMac. It will work with any iMac from 2009 and probably even with 2008 iMac.
