carpal tunnel syndrome
How does Magic Trackpad compare with Mighty Mouse and Magic Mouse on the subject of carpal tunnel syndrome?
- Asked by Stephen B from Clark
- Aug 4, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
It really depends on the placement of whichever pointing device you use. All three can either cause no harm or can cause a lot of harm. Carpal tunnel is a result of repetitive tension of the wrist. This could be due to placement, or simply tense motion. The best advice I have to give, is to buy whichever feels the most comfortable and try to avoid strain on the wrist.

Answer
Assuming you have a MacPro1,1 (early 2006), check to see if your computer has bluetooth hardware:
-hold down option key
-click Apple menu
-click "System Profiler..."
result: System Profiler launches
-click "Bluetooth" (left column, third item in Hardware)
result: you'll see a listing of the bluetooth hw _or_ a message stating "your system doesn't have bluetooth"
if no bluetooth hw, search "bluetooth dongle for Mac Pro" that should turn up info on which USB bluetooth dongle works.

Has anyone used this to do a presentation?
It would seem perfect for remote screen control of a presentation. I often present in Personal Brain and no remote could possibly work since it is non linear and you have to control a pointer. It forces me to me near the podium or computer. And a mouse will not work if I am standing. This could be fantastic for moving around after I attach a handhold loop to the back. Anyone tried presenting?

Answer
yes! i used it for a university lecture, it works very well. Depending on how big the theatre/audience is, do not move too far away from the computer. It will work up to about 6m away, but any further and the signal becomes broken more and more until eventually it is out of range.
it fits snugly into the palm of your left hand allowing for your right hand to make all the gestures. Be sure that you know how to click when it is not on a flat surface. If 'tap to click' is not on, you will need to press on the little semi-spherical rubber protecter at the bottom to click, as this triggers the physical click. I had a bit of a bad experience… but for the presentation it worked very well.- Answered by Anthony-paul H from Coburg

does anyone have experience of a magic mouse scrolling thru pages in InDesign (pretty much) on it's own? this trackpad may be just what we need!
trackpad with InDesign

Answer
The Multi-touch technology on the magic mouse and the magic trackpad are very similar to each other;
The magic trackpad is just like a trackpad on a MacBook that has been pulled off!
The magic mouse is only a bit different... Since it's surface is convex, it feels more like scrolling on a globe, rather than a smooth and flush surface... But according to my experiences, there both the same... Actually if you want to point the cursor accurately in pages, I think the magic mouse would be better for you! Cause it's laser tracking feature is more accurate.

Since the trackpad doesn't move, how would I (for example) move folders around the desktop with the it?
- Asked by Sean S from Brooklyn
- Mar 16, 2011
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
Your finger moves on the trackpad (and the trackpad remains stationary).
How you move things on the desktop depends on how you have the Magic Trackpad's preferences setup.
I have:
-Tap to Click
-Dragging
-Drag Lock
enabled.
So, a quick double tap on a folder grabs it (with Drag Lock), move it to where you want, then a single tap (to release Drag Lock).- Answered by Chris S from San Jose
