If I have both a Mac and an iPad, how does the wireless keyboard know which I want it to control?

Best AnswerAll Bluetooth products (whether it's an iPhone and your car's built-in Handsfree system, or a Bluetooth keyboard and a computer, or iPad) require a "pairing process" that is engaged in when the two items are first used together. You can choose whether a device "remember and automatically recognize and work together" - which typically you'd use with your computer and the Wireless Keyboard that was your main input device and was there by the computer 24/7. Alternatively, you can tell your device to "pair up" only when you tell them to do so with any particular bluetooth device.
If you are using the Wireless Bluetooth keyboard with your iMac and an iPad (for instance) you would probably tell the computer to automatically pair/connect with the bluetooth keyboard whenever it was in range or turned on. On the other hand, you would probably tell your iPad to pair with the Bluetooth Keyboard ONLY and IF ONLY you told it to do so. In reality it will ask you automatically if it detects the keyboard within range. You can then click "connect" or "do not connect" as you choose.
Apple's implementation of Bluetooth on their various devices all shares this ability. Again, Apple thinking it thru and "doing it right". (And no, I'm not an Apple Employee - just a long term Apple customer!) (smile!)
Hope this helped...- Answered by Mark I from Scottsdale

can the apple wireless keyboard be used with a MacBook? May I also buy a mouse, separately, for use with the keyboard?
I just want to know whether I can buy an apple wireless keyboard and use it with my MacBook. I also want to know if I can buy a mouse separately for use with the keyboard.

Best AnswerYes to both - Use the MacBooks bluetooth to connect either or both to your laptop. This is very common and works very well. Try adding a 2nd larger monitor as well to get the best of both worlds - desktop benefits with portability when needed.

Is Apple Wireless Keyboard Bluetooth 4.0?
- Asked by Anthony G from Strongsville
- Mar 13, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerNo, the current model is 2.0, but it's compatible with 4.0; which means that you could pair and use it with the new iPad if you want to. But it's gonna drain more battery power than as if it was 4.0.
I'm waiting for the improved 4.0 version to come out too, so have some faith. I'm sure it's on it's way!- Answered by Yingbo Z from Mount Pleasant

Can the Wireless Keyboard be configured to use Dvorak on the iPad?
I'm not talking about changing the keys, but rather in some way such as one can do on an Apple computer through System Prefernces.

Best AnswerYes it can. If you go to settings then select general after that tap international then select keyboards. Now you just have to scroll down to where it says "choose a hardware keyboard layout" then select Dvorak and your wireless keyboard will act as a Dvorak keyboard instead of as a qwerty keyboard.

Best AnswerYes you can match either device with the keyboard but you will need to define one to be used at a time. You would disconnect via bluetooth the keyboard for one device enabling the other device to be connected.
