The Apple iPod shuffle (3rd gen) USB Cable is compatible with 2nd gen iPod Shuffle?
I have a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle and I want to know if the iPod Shuffle USB Cable is compatible with this iPod too
- Asked by Felipe R from Palo Alto

Best AnswerFound this on the apple web site: It is not compatible.
"These cables are compatible with the iPod shuffle (3rd generation) only and are required to charge or sync the iPod shuffle (3rd generation). The iPod shuffle Dock, which came with the iPod shuffle (2nd generation), and all third-party chargers sold as compatible with the iPod shuffle (2nd generation) are incompatible with the iPod shuffle (3rd generation) and should not be used."- Answered by Virgil P from Vidalia

You need to get a cable that has a male input to your shuffle, and either another male output to your car audio's auxiliary input, or a cassette output.

Does the shuffle 4th gen usb charger work with 5th gen shuffle
I require a replacement cable for 5th gen shuffle, but the one for sale on the apple store lists only 3rd and 4th gen shuffles as compatible. How dow I get a replacement cable for the 5th gen shuffle or will this one work?

Best AnswerThere is no 5th Generation Shuffle as of today. The latest one but the big button in the middle is the 4th Generation realesed in September 2010. The 2nd Generation Shuffle cables & docks only work with the 2nd Gen. The 3rd Gen & 4th Gen Shuffles use the exact same cables.

Where do you plug in the USB cord on the ipod shuffle? Is it the same as the headphone port?

Best AnswerYes, you plug it into the headphones port since there are no other ways to connect the shuffle to. But you must have the specific USB (one side USB, and one side standard headphone connection) in the apple store it is called iPod shuffle USB cable.

usb cable for 5th gen classic
My nano isn't big enough. My son gave me his old classic (5th gen - last 3 YMV). I used my nano cable to charge it and had no effect on battery level. Does the classic 5th gen use a unique cable? the cables I have work interchangably with my iphone, nano and ipad2. Plugged same cable into a USB port and it immediately brought up itunes and all my ipod classic specifics. Loaded several MBs of music using same cable onto classic. Thanks!

Answeri think you should update your dock connector. I am certain that Apple updates their USB Cables, ever since the switch from Firewire to usb 2.0
5 gen classics should work with your cable. if it works with iPhone, nano, and ipad2, it should work.- Answered by Justin B from Boston

Best AnswerThis really is not compatible with the 2nd generation shuffle.
Even though it looks identical from a 3.5mm connector and usb connector point of view, it does NOT work !!!

3rd generation iTouch charging vs. 1st/2nd gen
I'm looking to buy a set of portable (boombox) speakers to work with my 3rd Gen iTouch. MANY of the speakers say they support generations 1 and 2... but fail to mention if they support Gen 3. Is this b/c the design is just that old (i.e. when they were designed and first sold, those were the only 2 generations of iTouch available)? Or, is there an incompatibility b/w Generations 2 and 3 (or 4)? If it helps, I'm looking at (among others) the inMotion Kick and M402SR by Altec Lansing
On a related note, if it says Universal iPod dock for iPod... does that mean it will work with all gen's of iTouch?- Asked by Doug G from Marion

AnswerSecond and third generation iPods use the same type of charging, so yours will work fine with that dock. Likely the box was printed before the 3rd gen was available. If something specifically said that it only supported the first generation, then it would likely use the old standard power source (FireWire) to charge the iPod, and if you plugged yours in, then it would play but not charge. Universal dock is just meaning that it supports all models of iPod. The only thing you have to worry about is whether it will charge your iPod, and if it supports second gen then you're good to go!

How do I connect iPod Shuffle to external speakers
- Asked by Walter R from Portland
- Oct 24, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerBecause of the extra tier on the 3.5mm jack/hub that connects the 3rd Gen. iPod Shuffle to other appliances, to connect the iPod to anything but the specific headphones that come with or similar compatible headphones you need an adapter.
If you look under the Apple Store for iPod Nano Accessories you will find the Belkin Headphone Adapter. This will allow you to harvest the audio signal and still maintain control over the iPod's basic operations (Pause, Play, Skip Songs, Select Playlists, Use Voice Over, etc.).
Once you have isolated the audio signal from the control functions of the iPod it is simply a manner of running a 3.5mm cable through whatever jack size adapters are necessary and into an amplifier with the necessary amplification requirements to reach the OHM level your' external speakers need to distribute your' audio signal.
