How long will those two rubber bumper strips hold up without a mousepad underneath? e.g. Wood/glass desk? Contrarily how will the desk hold up?
- Asked by Nhan C from Calgary
- Oct 20, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerThe bottom does NOT have rubber bumper strips. They are plastic. The body of the mouse is constructed from aluminum. The top is clear acrylic plastic which scratches very easily. The bottom are two black plastic beams. They keep if off the tracking surface. They are made from a strong plastic and should stand up very well to your tracking surface. That is why they are there in the first place! If it is on wood, it will mostly be worn faster. On glass, the mouse generally will not work anyway. As for the surface of the desk, wood will be the worst if not laminated good. If it is not too smooth, it will wear a lot more.

Can you use the Magic Mouse with the Macbook Pro 13"?
- Asked by David C from Yateley
- Oct 20, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerAs long as the machine is running Mac OS and has bluetooth capabilities... Then YES, it will work. Not sure if you machine has bluetooth... Apple>About This Mac>More Info...>Bluetooth. If Bluetooth is missing or if you click on it and there is no text to that comes up on the right side of the window describing hardware specs, then you dont have bluetooth on your machine. From what I have read, the MacBook Pro 13" is not available in a configuration without bluetooth, so it would be safe to say you should be ok. If in doubt, check for yourself using the above mentioned method. Good luck!

Does this work on glass surfaces?
A question regarding the Magic Mice laser sensitivity to reflective surfaces.
- Asked by Eric V from Houston
- Oct 20, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerNo, unfortunately. I put it on a magazine or piece of paper when I have to use it on a glass table, but I'm pretty sure it works with a mousepad, so it's an easy fix.

Can the Magic Mouse track without the need of a mat on a wooden desk?
I have a wired Mighty Mouse (which is an Optical Mouse) and I have to use a mousemat in order to use this mouse on my wooden desk. Can the Magic Mouse track on a wooden desk? A mousemat is too big to fit on the keyboard shelf when I slide the shelf away, so being able to do away with the mat would be great!
Thanks. :)- Asked by Ben A from Sunderland

is the laser dangerous, what if a child picks it up and looks into it?
this question is for the new magic mouse
- Asked by Todd T from Staten Island
- Oct 24, 2009

Best AnswerThe previous answer was not entirely correct. Just because a laser conforms to US or international standards does not mean its "safe". All lasers have some potential to harm the eyes. Its a matter of distance from the source to the eye and power output so even systems that say "eye safe" can cause eye damage depending on how far away/close you are. I do not know the power output of the laser however you should never look at or into a laser- even those briefing ones that reflect off the presentation screen. Its just a good practice!

If i turn off my Magic Mouse at night, then turn it back on in the morning do I have to re-sync it again to my computer?
- Asked by Susan S from Northfield
- Mar 21, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerWhenever I turn my mouse off at night (because I go through batteries once a month for this thing), in the morning I usually cannot get it to sync with my iMac G5, so I have to restart the computer to get it to sync up again, and in order to restart the computer, of course, I have to plug in a wired mouse.

-Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0* or Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0

Yes, it works with Leopard (providing it is updated to 10.5.8, and the mouse update is added to support the touch). It works with any Mac running Leopard, providing the Mac has Bluetooth.

My computer doesn't have built in bluetooth support. Do I need an adapter or something for this mouse?
- Asked by Aaron G from Dallas
- Nov 3, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerYes unfortunately you will need a Bluetooth adapter plugged into you machine for this mouse to work.
If you are using a laptop then you could use the USB type that are actually quite small.
I have one and apart from the USB plug that is inserted into the computer the part that actually sticks out of the side of my laptop is only 10mm * 5mm * 5mm
I have it working under Windows XP as my MacBook has Bluetooth.
The default code I used was 0000 for the Bluetooth security connection.- Answered by Lewis H from Baldock

I have arthritic hands, will the majic mouse work for me? I have problems with the laptop's touchpad.

AnswerI share your disability and challenge with Mac's laptop touchpad. I have found the Magic Mouse very helpful overcoming the problem of crimping one's fingers to use the touchpad. I highly recommend you consider using the Magic Mouse. However, be certain your laptop meets the minimum requirements...
• A Bluetooth-enabled Macintosh computer
• Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0 or
Mac OS X v10.6.1 or later with Wireless Mouse Software Update 1.0

can the magic mouse flip between two or more programs like the old mice did?
- Asked by Andy U from Batavia
- Dec 30, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
AnswerIf by activating expose to see al your open windows using a gesture or button on the mouse, than the answer is no. However, you could set up hot corners in system preferences (this would allow you to activate expose by flicking your mouse into a corner of the screen), or buy the wired apple mouse which has dedicated side buttons you could use for activating expose and other functions.
