There is no native support for VST in Logic. However, you can use VSTs in Logic via. Plogue Bidule (loaded either as software instrument, effect, or via. Rewire in stand-alone mode).

Can I export a MIDI file that I can then use in a program like Sibelius to make an orchestral score?
In Sibelius, a music notation program, I can create MIDI files which can be imported to GarageBand and, I assume, Logic. I don't think you can do this, export MIDI, in GarageBand (at least I couldn't figure it out). Will Logic allow me to?

From Cubase to Logic pros and cons
Iam using Cubase 6.5 how near in workflow is Logic Pro 9 to it.Can I import songs from Cubase.

Best AnswerYou won't be able to import Cubase sessions, but you can definitely import any raw audio/midi tracks into Logic as you can with most other DAWs. You can either bounce tracks down individually or export the whole song as a stereo track. In terms of workflow, its a learning curve, and there are pros and cons to switching, but ultimately, the end results are similar. Personally, I prefer Logic, but its what I'm used to. Cubase is a good program and ultimately the choice is just between which tool you want to use for the job.

Can I transfer music recorded on Mini Discs and edit them using Logic Studio?
- Asked by Philip M

AnswerYou can transfer via Audio input or from I/O ports as this how I Record/ Play my Masters and Demo's. I use the the I/O ports exclusively as this gives a true representation of the Music. There are several good systems that can interface with Logic and out of past experiences I use Focusrite Saffire Firewire Audio Interface as you get more ports for your money and the firewire link is reliable 99% of the time. I was using the Micro USB connectors for the Net MD but found this only works with Cubase/ Cakewalk systems on Microsoft driven PC's. I have a Sony stand alone with O/I in/out ports and use the Dins for the amp only as all Dins are prone to interference and at the end of the day the stand alone are not that expensive compared to the price of Logic 9.

How does Logic compare in functionality to FL Studio ?
I bought my son a Macbook several years ago. He is very much into creating his own music and uses FL Studio on a Windows PC. FL Studio does not make a Mac product. I am trying to migrate him away from FL Studio to a Mac product, but need to know if there is a comparable Mac product to FL Studio. Additionally, I would be interested in knowing if there is a way to convert the FL Studio files he has created into the comparable MAC product (if there is one). The goal is to get him entirely off Windows. :)

Best AnswerFL Studio is a great tool for music. If FL Studio was on OS X that would be great but is difficult to implement due to using Windows specific computer code. I find FL Studio is the quickest way due to its excellent 'piano roll' (Logic is not as logic in that aspect, pun intended) to realise your musical ideas. Don't take that from your son. Some people find FL Studio limited/unsuited for the quality of what they want to achieve. I run FL Studio on Windows in a virtual machine (Virtualbox) on my Mac and do the composing and sampling there before bounce the loops to audio and midi and finish of my songs in Logic (if they are any good that is).

How do the processing demands of Logic Pro 9 compare to those of Digital Performer 8? Is Logic more efficient in concrete, measurable terms?
I've been using DP for years, but since installing version 8 I've noticed that my eight core Mac Pro is sometimes hitting the wall on CPU with as few as 12 tracks (6 live + 6 virtual instruments) and 3 or 4 plug-ins. This is new behavior and has me considering a switch to Logic. Has anyone done a side by side comparison using the same or similar source material and measured the results in terms of processing demand? Unless Logic has significant performance benefits it's not really worth the effort to make the change.

Best AnswerYes, there are more plug ins available for mixing/mastering in Logic Pro 9...also would like to add that everything you have in logic express is also in Logic Pro but you will be adding to it with Logic Pro with additional tools and plug ins. I'm not exactly sure what comes with logic express 9 but I did have 8 and when I bought Logic Pro 9 it made quite a difference.

Can I have two display monitors, eg, one for the editorial and the other for the mix or other combo's simultaneously?
- Asked by Thomas P from Burbank

Best AnswerMac Pro's have dual monitor capability so if you run Logic on that you could quite easily use 2 x 30" cinema screens, with one running the Arrange and the Other the Mixer. I used to do this with an old G5 with 2 x 20" monitors.
It's not the Logic Studio software that takes care of this, it is the hardware you've got.
All you would need to is select the appropriate windows in the top menu, drag them to the screens and save them as a screenset so you could click on your number pad (1-9) and it would recall the set-up of your screens assigned.- Answered by Joe A

Best AnswerYes, from the moment you plug it into your USB input, however you may have to make the necessary software connections by opening you Audio Midi Setup ap. This can be found in your applications folder. I believe apogee devices were designed purely for Apple computers and software.
