Do I have to have a version of Logic Studio or Logic Pro to get this, or is this a full version already? Is this an upgrade?
I am currently using garage band to make songs on my MacBook (the white one). I want to upgrade to Logic Studio and want to get this but I'm not sure if this is an upgrade and I have to have a version of LogicStudio of Logic Pro installed already? What is the difference between this $199 version and the LogicStudio for $499? Thanks

There is no native support for VST in Logic. However, you can use VSTs in Logic via. Plogue Bidule (loaded either as software instrument, effect, or via. Rewire in stand-alone mode).

How does Logic compare in functionality to FL Studio ?
I bought my son a Macbook several years ago. He is very much into creating his own music and uses FL Studio on a Windows PC. FL Studio does not make a Mac product. I am trying to migrate him away from FL Studio to a Mac product, but need to know if there is a comparable Mac product to FL Studio. Additionally, I would be interested in knowing if there is a way to convert the FL Studio files he has created into the comparable MAC product (if there is one). The goal is to get him entirely off Windows. :)

Functionally, Logic gives you a LOT more than FL Studio. FL Studio is a great product, but if your son is really interested in a more professional setup then Logic is the way to go.
There isn't a comparable product to FL Studio on the Mac that I know of.
A good way to convert from FL Studio to Logic is to take what you make on FL Studio and convert the files to Midi and Audio files. Then you can bring them over into Logic and they will work perfectly.
Couple of things to keep in mind:
- Automation data may not be moved over
- Some Plugins he uses may not be available. e.g. if he uses VST plugins he would have to find AU versions from the manufacturer or replace the plugin with a Logic one. Or, get a VST wrapper.
Yes! Get him off Windows!
P.S. though this question was asked a long time ago, I think a lot of users would like to know :)- Answered by Azam P from Mississauga

How to open a vst intrument using logic studio ?

Best Answer
There's no direct support for VSTs in Logic. But you can load VSTs into Plogue Bidule, an AudioUnit that can be loaded as a software instrument or effect in Logic, or run in stand-alone mode via. Rewire. There's another benefit to doing this in that Bidule allows you to access the midi ports on your VST instruments and effects.

Best Answer
According to Apple you should have no problem with the upgrade. I copied this from the information page on Logic 9.
*About the Upgrades
There are two Logic Studio upgrades available: the upgrade from an earlier version of Logic Studio or Logic Pro; and the upgrade from Logic Express. Academic and Not-For-Resale (NFR) versions are not eligible for either upgrade.- Answered by Cheryl P from Golden Valley

Logic, when it was still an eMagic product back in the early 2000s, came in Windows and Mac versions. Since Apple acquired eMagic, it's been Mac-only.

Yes, there are a few plug-in options for pitch correction. Not quite the detail of commercial plug-ins, but you have options for setting a key sig., bypassing individual pitches, setting attack and release rates. You can go from the well-known 'Cher' sound to barely noticeable and everywhere in between.
I prefer to automate my pitch correction so it only starts to work when I really need bang on pitches and for this, the bundled plug-in is well capable.- Answered by Keith L

I installed the Logic Studio from its Install DVD and its accompanying 7 CDs' contents on my Mac Version 10.7.2 with Processor 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and Memory * GB 1067 MHz DDR3.
