Best AnswerYes, you can. I was confused about it myself, but the thunderbolt connector that you have on your macbook air can be used as a Mini DisplayPort.. So you don't need to buy any other converters, either.

AnswerI have a 2010 Mac Book and this will work with a mini display port. To know if it is mini display port, the symbol is a square with a line on both sides of the square. Thunderbolt's symbol is a thunder bolt. It will probably work because it works with my 2010 mac and a Mac Book Pro with a thunderbolt port. A thunderbolt port will allow for you to connect a hard drive and have fast data transfers and use a screen but the mini display port will only let you connect to a screen. Hope I helped.

What do I need to connect a MacBook Pro with retina display laptop to a projector

Best AnswerYou would have to buy a Mini display port to VGA adapter. On the left side of your mac there should be 2 tiny ports that are mini display ports. buy that piece and plug it in to one of them. But don't forget you need a computer cord to plug the 2 together. After the projector is connected to your laptop, it should turn as a blue screen on the mac. then you must go to setting, go to displays, and turn display mirroring on till the projection comes on. then you are ready to go

Is Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor a standard that works on all platforms?
Will the Mini DisplayPort to VGA adaptor work for video output from a new Dell XPS that has a mini DisplayPort connection?

Best AnswerThanks. I bought a generic one and it works for my Dell XPS and a colleague's Macbook to both monitors and projectors too. So it's a standard port and adapter, not Windows or Mac specific.

AnswerThe Mini Display port to VGA will not work for the iPad mini, but apple makes a Lightning port (which is the charger port on iPad mini) to VGA and it does the complete same the only difference is the port piece.

Can I use this with a windows laptop?
I am planning on purchasing a Dell XPS 13 as soon as it is released, and I have a monitor I use to connect my current Dell Inspiron 1545. Will this adapter work for this? I may also need to connect this to a project at my school for a couple of presentations. Thanks for any answer in advance!

AnswerNo. It won't work. I just bought one from Apple store and tried on my XPS 13. The signal came on and off for some projectors. For older projectors it just won't send any signal. Safer to get Dell's own adaptor.
