Will this adapter work with the smaller 23-inch Apple Cinema Display?
More broadly, is a dual-link DVI cable or adapter compatible with standard DVI signals?

Best AnswerYes. The 23-inch apple cinema display (and anything with a resolution under 1920x1200) won't be able to utilize the full the capabilities of this adapter, but you could buy this as a way to "futureproof" yourself in case you get a monitor with a resolution equal to or greater than 1920x1200 in the future.

Better to use this or a Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adaptor?
I have a Dell U2711 with both DVI-D and DisplayPort inputs at 2560x1440. I have been using this DVI-D adaptor for about a month with a new Mac Mini. Works OK except that when the Mac Mini wakes up from sleep, sometimes the monitor has video snow and I have to power cycle it. (Yes, I am running 1.03 firmware).
There is a well-reviewed Mini DisplayPort to DisplayPort adaptor made by Altaz, on Amazon. Normally I would have bought this in the first place, but I was worried that it was not sold by the Apple Store. It's much cheaper with much better reviews than this product.
So should I try the Altaz adaptor? Is it better to go with Mini Display Port to DisplayPort rather than Mini DisplayPort to DVI-D? Is it a red flag that Apple does not sell a Mini Display Port to Display Port solution, but only the Mini Display Port to DVI-D product?- Asked by Lewis S from Berkeley

AnswerActually it turns out that the mini-display port to display port adaptor has reports of problems with the U2711, so I decided to stay with this mini-display port to dvi-d adaptor. I do get the snow on waking up from sleep a few times a week, I just turn the monitor off, then on and it goes away, so I lose about 20 seconds/week.

you couldn't [easily] use the imac monitor for a tv display, but you can get a usb tv tuner (that has a video input like coaxial or rca or component) and use that to put tv signal to computer to display on the screen. if you don't need cable or satellite tv, my imac works great for netflix and dvd movies :). there are USB bluray drives you can buy, also, allowing playback and recording of bluray discs on your mac (which WILL be worth it with the imac's native resolution and screen size).

Answeryes, if the resolution is higher than 1200x1920. if it isn't higher than 1200x1920, then the answer is still yes, but you can use a cheaper mini displayport - vga or dvi adapter.

MiniDisplayPort to DVI Dual-link + Dual-link splitter?
Currently I have two DVI monitors (Dell 19", 1600x1200 each) connected to a dual link splitter on my desktop PC. I want to replace the PC with my MBP (2011) and drive both monitors as my primary desktop. Will the MBP see the splitter as two monitors the way the PC does? Or will it see them as a single larger screen? I'm concerned that it will see the monitors as a single screen and then my dock will end up split across the two.

Best AnswerYes you can. I connect my MacBook Pro to a 42" flatscreen TV.
I have never used this cable, but still disagree with the other answer concerning pixilation. I had a similar pixilation problem, and I was writing furious blogs to Mac. But then I discovered that in System Preferences you can reconfigure the "Energy Saver" "Graphics" setting to "highest performance". I haven't had the problem since....It was not a cable issue.
There is an external video problem when your MAC is set for "better battery life", but there are two power configurations: "Battery" and "Power Adapter". I set the Power Adapter setting to "Highest Performance" and the "Battery" to "Better battery life". When I use my external display, I plug in the power adapter.
I am not the sharpest tool in the computer shed so if you can take your mac to an apple store and try it out first to validate, do it. And I bet you dollars to doughnuts or pounds to peanuts that you can duplicate the problem on an Apple display and fix it with the above configuration changes.- Answered by Sean P from Folly Beach

Would this setup work? Mac Mini -> Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual Link Adapter -> DVI Dual Link to HDMI Adapter -> HDMI Cable to 1080p TV? 2560x1600?
Would I be able to get the 2560x1600 resolution out of my Mac Mini if using the following series of adapters...
Mac Mini -> Mini DisplayPort to DVI Dual Link Adapter -> DVI Dual Link to HDMI Adapter -> HDMI Cable to 1080p TV?
Or would the HDMI adapter downscale the resolution?
I intend on using my 32" 1080p HDTV up close as a monitor, and therefore require a high resolution. Is this possible?
Help will be greatly appreciated.- Asked by Luke K

Best AnswerNO.
You don't seem to understand the basic principles here. Your HDTV is 1920x1080 pixels resolution MAXIMUM. You cannot make that any higher, no matter how big the HDTV is (even a 70" screen), it's a physical number of pixels the manufacturer has made that screen to itself.
If you want a higher-than-HD resolution on a big screen you have to use a super-HD "extra high resolution" (hence generally more expensive than HDTV prices) monitor such as Apple's 30" or another brand such as Dell. These have 2560x1600 pixel resolutions, hence why they need this "Dual-Link" (ie. *special*) DVI adaptor to power those extra pixels that standard DVI cannot handle.
If you want to continue with the HDTV for a monitor (ie. 1920x1080 maximum resolution) you just need the standard connection cable (with an adaptor as needed: to DVI/VGA/HDMI on the back of the HDTV), not the Dual-Link one.
One other thing you can do is run TWO lower resolution screens (eg. 2x 1080 full HDTV's) that each run from the mini, to gain more resolution real estate (2x 1920x1080 = 3840x2160 over the two screens). One plugged into the Mini DVI port (with relevant adaptor to DVI or VGA or HDMI on first TV), another one into the Mini DisplayPort (with relevant adaptor to DVI or VGA or HDMI on second TV). Setting extended mode in your mini's System Pref's.
NB: some of those adaptors are made by Apple, some by third party.- Answered by James S

How do I connect my Mac Mini to my Sony 1080P HD tv?

AnswerMy set up works flawlessly.
1. get a DVI to HDMI adapter ('chunky' plug - on end goes into the mac mini the other end creates the 'female' for the HDMI cable.
2. HDMI Cable.
that's it. just plug them in... tweak resolutions on tv and mac display to your liking. I tended to like the Overscan checked (system preferences/display/options)- Answered by Gary W from Toronto

Is it possible to link 2 extra monitors to my macbook pro? One monitor is VGA and the other is DVI and I would like to connect them both.
I bought a splitter cable that splits the dvi signal into two outputs -one VGA and one DVI output but only one of the connected monitors pick up the signal when they are both plugged in, the other one says no signal and then goes to sleep.

Best Answerto connect two displays to your macbook pro you'll need something like a matrox dualhead2go (google it). be careful which one you get, if you have the macbook pro with a dvi out then you'll need the Digital Edition, if you have a the model with the mini displayport you'll need the DP edition. cablewise for the DP edition you'll need a mini displayport to displayport, and two displayport to [your monitor's connection]. the digital edition has a dvi input and 2x dvi outputs.

I just bought a Dell SP2309W 2048 x 1152 resolution and I'm really confused in which Adapter I should buy this one or the Mini Displayport to DVI?
I'm really confused because I heard that the Mini Displayport to DVI adapter resolution only goes up to 1920 x 1200 max but my monitor's resolution is 2048 x 1152 so that won't work. And I was thinking to buy the Mini Displayport to dual-Link DVI Adapter but I herd it doesn't work with other monitors only the 30inch Apple Cinema Display and its way to much for an adapter. So what could I do im stuck is there anything I could do?

Best AnswerTotally possible. I am running my new 13" macbook pro into my Samsung 42" HDTV using the mini display port adapter, and a DVI to HDMI cable I bought an apple keyboard w/number pad, hooked up my Logitech MX Revolution wireless mouse.....whallah....42" of Mac. Works absolutely fantastic.
For those of you who want to do this with a macbook......start with the TV off, I open the Macbook press the power button, then immediately close it all the way. Next turn on the TV. and you should be set. I use my laptop as a "desktop" literally everyday. When I do need to go somewhere however, I pull a few wires and walk out the door. The nice thing is, that i am not wearing out the keyboard and the laptop screen when i am hooked up to the flatscreen tv. the life of my macbook LCD screen will be extended ten fold.
Hope this helped.- Answered by Eric M from Uniontown

Can I use this cable to connect a 30" cinema display to my 15" MacBook Pro with a Thunderbolt storage device in the daisy chain?
I have a 15" MacBook Pro. I'm currently using this cable to connect a 30" cinema display at full resolution to my Thunderbolt port and a USB port. I want to add a Thunderbolt storage solution. Is seems like I should be able to add a storage device, connect it directly to the MacBook Pro thunderbolt port with a thunderbolt cable, then connect the DVI adapter to the thunderbolt storage device at the end of the daisy chain (as long as the USB port connects back to the MacBook Pro). Anyone know if this will work? Will I lose resolution? I/O performance?
Thanks!- Asked by George M from Phoenix
