Does it charge an iPhone connected through MacBook Pro?
- Asked by Toshiaki M from La Jolla

Best Answer
Short answer YES. I've just run a test, and the previous answer of "no, it charges from any power left in the MacBook battery" is incorrect. I'm running a MacBook Pro 13", MacBook battery at 99%, and it has charged my iPhone from 25% to 100% without affecting the MacBook (still at 99% charge). I notice the iPhone charging is slower than usual though.

Can I use a current adapter to charge my macbook air in germany?
- Asked by Richard H from San Antonio
- Feb 25, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best Answer
Yes, but you must buy an adapter so you can plug the U.S. plug configuration into the German outlets. The MacBook and MacBook Pro operate on the 240-volt European power grid. Apple's conversion kit has multiple adapters for worldwide travel; you only need one of them for Germany and most of Europe (the U.K. is different).

Would this adapter work equally well in an automobile?

It's designed for 15V DC that you find on airplanes. If you are the DIY type, you can make your own 15V DC automotive socket by using an automotive universal laptop supply to step up the car's 12V to 15V.

what power cord can I buy to charge my iphone on a plane?

Answer
The same one that works in your car will work in most airplane power ports. Mine charged my iPhone today on my American flight. Just be sure your seat has a port. There are seating charts on the website that tell you or you can look at www.seatguru.com for the information.

Will this product work with all planes?
Worried about buying this if it won't work
- Asked by Jake F from Kamuela
- Mar 15, 2012
- Flag as inappropriate
Answer
No, it won't. It will work on any airplane equipped with 15v "empower" outlets, or on any airplane equipped with a cigarette lighter type outlet. Other airplanes have conventional AC outlets that you can plug the regular Mac power brick into.
I have a trip planned on United. The first leg will be on a 737, which has regular AC outlets at every seat. The second leg is on a 767 that has empower outlets as far back as row 23.
On the first leg I'll use my MacBook's regular MagSafe power adapter brick. On the second, I'll use the MagSafe Airline Adapter.- Answered by Robert B from Benicia

Can the AirPlane adapter work "off the AC power grid" that is: using a 60 watt (3.6 Amps at 15.4) foldable solar battery charger.
I have a foldable solar battery charger made by PowerFilm (model F15-3600/F15-3600N). this charges a universal electronics charger, model: Impel by Brunton. It has a Lithium Polymer recharable battery that has selectable outputs: 5V@600mA ( it's USB), or 12V@ 3800mA (46W)Max, or 16V @ 3500 mA (56W) Max, or 19V @ 3200mA (60W)Max all with auto shut-off feature. The capacity for Impel is 146Wh.
It seems from reading your questions/awswers that the adapter for Apples Airport cable adapter is indeed a "standard male cigarette lighter type plug and that if I select the 16v or 19v option on my Impel it should work.
Will either the 16 or 19v work, or will the 19v fry the MacBook Pro?- Asked by Cindy R from Brookings

Best Answer
I tried doing exactly this and fried my MacBook Pro battery by using 19v. DON'T DO IT. 16v seems to work fine.

Can I use this adapter to charge my Macbook Pro when I plug it into an AC adapter (which has the USB port)?
I am interested in charging my Macbook Pro via the AC adapter which is then plugged into an adapter when I am in Europe. I have been able to charge my iTouch this way and wanted to know if I could do the same using the MagSafe Airline adapter as it has a USB.

Will it charge the laptop's battery if the laptop is shutdown?
I understand that it doesn't provide enough power to both power the laptop and charge the battery simultaneously. But it would seem that if you do not have the laptop powered up, then there might be enough power to charge the battery.

Answer
Considering the plug won't fit, no.
However, it might work if you power a MacBook of some kind with this and use the iPad's included USB cable to connect it to the MacBook. That's just me speculating, though.- Answered by Doug P from Goldens Bridge
