Can I use Airport Express work with IPad?
I travel and a lot of Hotels offer free internet, but often overseas it is only via a cable connection in your room. If I connect Airport Express to the room internet connection and set up my own network will I be able to connect with the IPad?

Yes, you'll be able to connect with your iPad. Anyone who travels with an iPad should also consider carrying the Airport Express, especially if you don't have a 3G capable iPad.

For streaming music to my home stereo, how is this (AirPort Express) different to Apple TV .... from what I can tell it does the same thing?
I have my music on a computer with iTunes in the kitchen, and I want to be able to play it thru the stereo speakers in the Living room (they're connected to an Amp there).

You need to be careful in comparing the two. If you want to stream to your stereo, AE and ATV might both work but might not depending on your setup. For example, if your stereo is not hooked up to your TV, the new ATV second generation will NOT work because all you have is an HDMI output connector. ATV first generation has RCA and digital audio out jacks and the AE has a mini analog/digital plug output jack.

Hi
After studying a lot of answers to this similar question, I've found the answer, that is NO. iPhone and iPad can't directly send docs or jpg ... to print via AirPort express, but there is a way to do that, using AirPrint Activator 2 app which works completely well on my iMac.
I hope this answer helps those are looking for the right solution.- Answered by Farid H from Boise

iOS 4.2 devices can only print (via AirPrint) directly to an AirPrint-enabled device. There are only a few of these, all from HP.
Macs and PCs can print to any USB printer that is connected to any Airport Express, Extreme, or Time Capsule on the network.- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa

Yes, I am currently doing so with my iPad. Make sure you have updated to the latest iOS and when playing music there will be a box with a triangle facing down in the middle. Thats the airplay feature!! Plus you can stream from other apps as well such as pandora!!! You can also access the airplay feature when you double tap the home button and pull up the mutlitasking features. It is awesome!

Audiophile question: AirPort Express:Should I out directly to my preamp or send it through a 24 bit DAC?
If I did a AB comparison between a CD and the DAC converter in the AirPort Express would it be very close in sound quality or would it benefit to output through the optical audio minijack in the AirPort Express into a 24 bit/96 KHz DAC such as the Spitfire 24 Bit DAC by Audiophile Products.com? Would there be a noticeable difference?

I have used Airport Express (AE) in three configurations:
- AE with mini plug to RCA (OK)
- AE with mini-optical to Receiver Optical (Great)
- AE with mini-optical to DAC then DAC to Receiver using RCA connectors (Superb)
The trick is to try to avoid the DA converter in the Apple Express by delivering the digital signal to either a quality external DAC or to a reciever with a quality DAC. The assumption is that the downstream DACs are better quality than what's in the Apple Express. (Also a mini plug to RCA is probably not the best connection)
I now have a McIntosh 6500 integrated amp without an optical-in. My only option was the external DAC. It sounds superb using Apple Lossless (using error correction when ripping CDs). However, I also have a higher end Onkyo theater system and use the optical-in and it sounds great too. If mini-plug-to-RCA is a "3", the other two options have the potential to be 8, 9's or 10's (depending on the DACs).
Good luck.- Answered by Scott G from Winchester

An iPad can connect to any 802.11a/b/g/n wireless network, either at home or out and about, so your main concern probably will be at what speed it is able to connect at home.
I'd choose the latest model of AirPort Extreme because its MIMO technology allows the simultaneous connection of an iPad and an iPhone or iPod Touch and multiple other slower speed devices without the iPad's connection being slowed down whenever a slower device connects to the network.
In the interim, assuming you have a computer and wired internet connection which you used to setup the iPad, if your computer has wireless, activate it and turn on internet sharing on your computer so that iPad can get online now.- Answered by Andrew H from Carmel

Does the Airport Express support either SecureEasySetup, Wi-Fi Protected Setup or AOSS?

Answer
No, my Airport Express (firmware version 6.3) starts up with option to go to Manual setup. After this, there are 5 buttons: Airport, Internet, Music, Printers, Advanced. After choosing Airport, there are 4 tabs: Summary, Base Station, Wireless, and Access Control. Under 'Base Station' there is no 'Add Wireless Client...' option nor is there one anywhere else I can find. Again, firmware version 6.3.
I suspect WPS is available for Airport Extreme, but cannot confirm.- Answered by Daniel W from Apo

Yes you can if 1) you have a printer that is accessible on your local network and 2) you get one of the available iPad apps to handle printing. There are several available (some are iPhone) with varying degrees of functionality. Some let you print anything you can copy into your clipboard, and others do it differently so be sure to read the descriptions.

Although the capability is not available at this time, the iOS 4.2 Software Update for the iPad, among other features, will allow you to "[w]irelessly stream videos, music, and photos from iPad to the new Apple TV, and stream music to AirPlay speakers or receivers, including AirPort Express." This software update, according to Apple, should be released some time in November.

Can I use the Airport Express Base Station with my FiOS Actiontec router to extend the wifi signal in my home?
I currently have an Actiontec MI424WR router that came with my FiOS setup and currently it supports 802.11b/g. What I am looking to do is extend the wifi coverage in my home, so that I could use my iPad in my backyard.
I want to know if I can plug this Airport Express Base Station into an outlet in the back of my house, will it communicate with my Actiontec router to extend the wifi signal to the back of my home and my backyard?
Thanks- Asked by Anthony P from Staten Island

AH from Carmel,
Thanks for the info. I was not planning on using it outdoors, I was going to plug it in inside my home, but I was looking to extend my wifi signal so that I could other devices outdoors (iPhone, iPad, ect).
Anyway, I had already purchased the express prior to seeing your reply, and you were correct. I was able to set it up so long as I had it connected to my router via an enet cable. Once I disconnected and plugged it into the outlet I was going to use, it did not register with my network.
If I wanted to extend the wifi, I would need to get the base station as you suggested or some other form of extender, and I am not really looking to spend that kind of money right now.
Thanks.- Answered by Anthony P from Staten Island

Connecting AirPort Express to FIOS wireless network
I am using a Verizon supplied FIOS modem/router (Actiontec M1424-WR) and connecting several PC's and Macs wirelessly. I am thinking of buying an AirPort Express. If I want to connect the AirPort Express to this router do I haveto do this with an Ethernet cable or can it be added as another device to the FIOS wireless network? In the latter case (a) how will I do this and (b) will the AE still be able to enable prininting wirelessly etc?
Secondly, if I just use the AirPort Express as a wireless device to connect my iPod and iPad to my stereo system will its signals interefere with my exisiting FIOS wireless network in any way?

Best Answer
Your FIOS modem/router is a standard WiFi base station. You could connect an Airport Express to it either by plugging into the wired ethernet, or wirelessly by configuring the AE for the same WiFi network.
The AE can support a printer in either case. If you want to stream music to the AE, you will need to either a) connect it to the FIOS modem/router over ethernet, or b) disable WiFi on the FIOS box. Music streaming will only work if all WiFi base stations on the WiFi network between the Mac (or PC) hosting iTunes, and the AE connected to the stereo or speakers, are Apple WiFi base stations.
As for your second question, not if everything is configured properly (WiFi networks routinely have >1 base stations and numerous devices attached).- Answered by Kenneth D from Ottawa

I got a Virgin super hub today and my Airport Express wouldn't work with it. Once the super hub was fully activated by Virgin I logged onto it using Safari at 192.168.0.1 using the username and password printed on the back of the hub. If you then go to advanced settings there is a menu for Modem Mode. Enable that and it re-starts the hub, plug your AE cable into the hub and wait for the green light. I then had to restart my iMac but once back up it worked exactly as before with the old modem but at 30mb. If you want to return the super hub to a router there is a pin hole reset on the side just above the on button.

I want to stream music, control it using my iPad, and wirelessly print to my USB printer. What do I need; Apple TV & an amp, AirportExpress, or both?
I have a MacBook Pro and iPad. I also have a set of Mission speakers, a Samsung tv and a Sony PS3, plus a BT HomeHub in my lounge.
Most of my music is on my MBP, but I prefer to use my iPad.
I'd like to control the speakers from my iPad from any room in the house. I have loads of music and films on my MBP, but am fed up of listening to it through tinny speakers. I've also got music and films on my iPad. I'd ideally like to connect both up to my nice speakers, but have no idea how. I've got a few apps (rowmote, remote, spotify) but won't always be using the MBP.
Should I buy an amp for my speakers (and tv) and get apple tv? Will I be able to connect apple tv and my speakers to the amp? If so, I'll be able to play music and films through my speakers, from my iPad, MBP and PS3.
The cheaper alternative is for me to just buy Airport Express and connect that to my speakers. Both the MBP and iPad can connect to it, and while I won't be able to play my films on the big screen, I will be able to print wirelessly by connecting my USB printer. But is there any way for me to play music from the MBP via my iPad with this arrangement?
The final option is to buy both ATV and AE, but this is quite costly. What setup ticks the most boxes?- Asked by James F
