You will need a cable that goes from the 1/8 inch jack on your iPod to whatever you have in your house or car. They sell these cables at any electronics store

No. I already have the 2nd generation and I just bought the 4th. The 4th is smaller and will not "seat" in the charger.

do you have to use the shuffle dock to connect to your computer or can you connect directly
My niece was given an IPOD shuffle 2nd generation that was used by her brother. We do not have the docking station and have tried to connect to the computer with the cable. Do you have to have the dockign station to connect? We have tried three computers and none will recognize the shuffle. We have gone through the troubleshooting steps as well with no luck.

the cable is for the 3rd gen shuffle only

This dock and the Universal dock will not fit an iPod Shuffle 3rd generation but is there one that will?

There are aftermarket universal docks like BOSE, but all you need is a USB to 1/8" TRS serial plug. Apple offers a third gen sync cable for around 20 bucks. Funny thing is the cable and docking station are interchangeable for charging either the 2nd and 3rd gen IPOD

Um yea, you can install the software anywhere you want to. I got my Ipod shuffle from USA and installed the software in Pakistan, it works just fine.

No, this dock is ONLY for the 2nd generation shuffle. The dock you seek is a one that includes a 30-pin dock connector.

My sister gave me a ipod shuffle and i went to a apple store to buy usb cable to conect to my itunes to put music on the shuffle my question is Do i need a docking station to do this as I did not see the shuffle on itues ? PLEASE help me wiht this

It works with the new 2G Shuffle. Apple went back to the original design after horrible sales of Shuffle that had controls on earphones. Couldn't operate Shuffle if you upgraded earphones.

You can use the newer 3rd or 4th gen cable to charge, but you need the dock to sync.
