AnswerWhat you should do is purchase a rechargeable battery from apple online or in-store. Then follow the installation instructions included. This new battery will also give you an extra 2 1/2 hours on top of what your old battery had. The replacement battery costs $129.99. Using the apple rechargeable battery is recommend and other rechargeable may hurt you computer.

Do Apple offer a service to refurbish my existing battery, rather then buying a new one? If not does the Apple store take them for recycling?
My Macbook battery is completely dead, and I would like to get a new one. However I would rather get the existing one refurbished if this is a cheaper option. If not I would like to be able to dispose of the battery properly, ideally to someone who can recycle it. Do Apple refurbish batteries, or offer a trade in on them, or take them for recycling or safe disposal.
Thank you.- Asked by Tristan T

AnswerThe model number shown will be enough for any Apple Store sales person to understand your requirements. In terms of long term usage and safety, it's advisable to use genuine batteries for a MacBook. Model No. A1185 may be one of the options for black MacBook.

My battery is warped. Should I be worried? Does it need to be replaced or is it still safe to use?
- Asked by Trudi K from Woods Cross
- Jan 14, 2010

Best AnswerSTOP do not use a warped battery, it is damaged and could easily damage your computer. If you have a spare or can borrow one from a friend to test and the spare charges normally and doesn't overheat or swell then you're ok to get a replacement. Otherwise or if in any doubt, I recommend you take it to the genius bar to have it checked...the macbook, not the battery, The battery is ruined.

Best AnswerI'm on cycle number 711 and its still at 90% health, reading the reviews I've been pretty lucky, but I would estimate that 400-500 charge cycles is about when most people start noticing a decrease in performance

How long should a lithium battery last? My wife's Mac is only 4 years old and will no longer takes charge. My PC is 6years old and I have no problem
- Asked by Maria F from Springfield

Best AnswerAs these batteries have only been around for a short time (3 years+) it's tough to say. My first MacBook is now 2.5 years old and the Battery still charges 100%. I bought 2 more MacBooks for my company last Christmas and one of them just died after 8 months of use. The battery no longer charges or holds a charge and must be replaced. So, as far as battery quality goes, it's hit and miss. Pray you get a good one or look into the extended coverage when you buy your MacBook and make sure it covers Battery life/replacement
