Nike+ branded shoes have a sensor holder built into the left shoe under the pad on the inside. However, there are third-party manufacturers that make a pouch that holds the sensor so that you're not restricted to wearing Nike+ footwear. The pouch gets threaded under the laces of either shoe.

what does the nike+ipod sensor do?
- Asked by Jennifer L P from Kentwood
- Dec 27, 2009
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerThis sensor, when paired with an iPhone 3GS, iPod touch (2nd generation) or iPod nano (with receiver), can track how long you've run, using a pedometer built in the sensor. Using software on the iPod, you can track your running data and pick certain music specifically for running purposes.

Yes, you push and hold the back button for 3 seconds to put the sensor to sleep. It will sleep when not used, but if you are going to store it for longer periods, you can manually put it to sleep with that button.

Can I use the Sensor alone and sync after a run with the Running app?
I am considering getting the Nike + iPod Sensor and have been running a few times a week using the Nike + Running app for a while now.
What I don't like is running with my iPhone 4S in my pocket (worried it might fall out), so am wondering whether I could leave the iPhone at home and the Sensor is enough to collect data from the run? Then I can sync up after the run to analyse pace etc.
Not sure if this is possible based on other comments/reviews online - the guy at the Apple store wasn't entirely sure either.
I'd then buy an iPod shuffle for £40 with just my running playlists on and feel much more at ease!

Can I leave my sensor in my shoe?
Do I need to take the sensor out when I am done walking/running or can I leave it in my shoe? Will it use the battery if I leave it in?
- Asked by Ryan M from Cranberry Township

Best AnswerYes you can leave it in the shoe. It is designed not to use battery power when it is not being used, and is basically in "sleep" mode. The battery gets activated once there is motion. That's why you need to walk around a bit before starting a workout. The movement turns it on so that the receiver can pick up the signal.

Can the newest ipod nano 7th generation work with it without a reciever
I am getting a iPod nano 7th generation and if I bought the one with the reciever I will waste $25 dollars! So I need to know it.

AnswerI have a Nano 7th generation and when I inquired about needing the sensor and receiver, I was informed the Nano had the receiver built in and all I needed to purchase was the sensor, which can be purchased from the Apple store for $19.

Will the ipod sensor measure my pulse, or how will i know if i'm doing the right amount of exercise?
- Asked by Katrine S
- Mar 5, 2010
- Flag as inappropriate
Best AnswerThat's between you and your fitness instructor or finding a fitness program that works well for you. However, the Nike+ product does not come with a pulse sensor so there's no way for the system to know how your heart rate is doing.

Absolutely NOT!
I just bought a standalone sensor without doing enough research and found that there is not way to use the Nike+ sensor AT ALL with ANY version of the iPad. Perhaps the dongle for the iPods will work, but there is just no way I am going to hunt a separate dongle down just in order to find out that it as well will not work. Looking at the compatibility chart in the apple store for the sensor+dongle do not list the iPad.
INCREDIBLY disappointing that there is just no way for treadmill iPad users to collect data with the Nike+ sensor. Such a huge and stupid oversight or decision on the part of Apple, really, but these strange omissions between the product lines are becoming a hallmark of iOS.
Thanks a mile, Apple. OH WAIT! I can't measure it now...
We Ipad treadmill users EXIST, Apple! Please listen!!!!!!

will the nike+ sensor work with two ipods?
we have an ipod touch 3G with the built in receiver and the ipod nano 4th gen. but, we only have one sensor and receiver that has been used for the nano. can i use the sensor for the ipod touch if its not being used for the nano? i want to use it for my own stats and not for my wife's stats that she has built up.

Best AnswerYes, you can sync your current sensor to the Touch and use it with both iPods. I started out with a kit and used it on my 3rd gen iPod Nano until I received my new Touch. I use both now. The Touch is nice but heavier and I worry more about it falling out of my pocket and breaking. So if I am going for a hard/long workout, I will use the Nano.

Does this Nike Sensor work with iPad or iMac?
I have been using an ActiHealth pedometer from A&D Medical that wirelessly gives data to my iMac. Since I suspect that this subscription is nearing renewal, I am hoping that I can use your Nike sensor with my iPad or iMac. (I do not have an iPod or iPhone.)

Are the recievers sold individually? mine was stolen along iwth the ipod. newest nanos / shuffles need the reciever?
the larger ipods are too big for me to run with. i need to buy a replacement ipod and dont want to buy a whole new sports pack for the reciever when some ipods have the receiver built in.

Best AnswerThe newest line of (most) iPods have the software built in. Buying an iPod Touch, for example, would prevent you from having to purchase a new receiver. It's my understanding that Nike+ does not work with any Shuffles.
