Can I walk instead of run?

AnswerYes, the sensor will operate effectively if you just walk. If you look at the screenshots of the software in use, you will see that there is a menu button labeled "Walk." I would imagine however, that it is just like a pedometer in the way it measures each step.

when i put the sensor on sleep mode does it save my battery life or its just the same when its awake?

Does the sensor work well with Vibram FiveFingers shoes?
I have Vibram FiveFingers KSO shoes. I'm wondering if it's possible to securely attach this sensor to the Vibrams since their design is radically different from normal shoes and they don't have laces.

Best AnswerThe Nike + iPod sensor will generally work with any shoe as long as you find a place to house it. You can even strap it to the outside of the shoe.

Why the need for sensor when Iphone 3gs has a reall gps?
I am wondering the question above. The sensor needs to be calibrated, yet a real GPS is available in the Iphone 3gs. Is it not possible to use the programme only with GPS?

Best AnswerThis sensor does not use GPS Technology. The Sensor is simply an accelerometer that measures how long your foot is in contact with the ground. It has long been known that the amount of time your foot is on the ground is inversly proportional to the speed at which you are running. Hence the calibration.

How accurate is the sensor to speed and distance?
Also as i get tired i tend to run slower, will the sensor assume i am still running at the same speed?
As it is only a pedometer will it just assume I'm running at the same speed as i did in the calibration, or does it adjust?- Asked by Andrew A from Brisbane

Best Answerno it's not a pedometer, it contains an accelerometer. so it records how fast your foot moves and for how long. so with speed and time you have distance.
I have run everything from 1KM to 42.km with this and it's with 20m
ie I have marked out routes on my bike and then run them and the bike and nike+ within 20-30m of each other (over 20KM)

Do I need to purchase the Nike+ app or will it come w/the sensor?Trying to figure out everything needed for this to work on my Itouch 4th and cost.
Basically I am trying to make sure that I do not get this product thinking I just need to pay $19 and then find out I need to purchase other things to make this items work. It is a 4th Generation Itouch.

Best AnswerI have a Itouch 4GEN it has a software builtin its a little tricky getting to it though
go to settings>in the side bar scrool down and you'll see the NIKE+IPOD APP click on it just click on and set it up. In the end go to the second or first page of your ipod desktop and you'll find it hope this info was helpful AHSAN- Answered by Ahsan K

This is silly, but you have to run WITH the ipod/phone right? I've just bought the sensor to use with my iphone 4.. So I have to run with the phone..
--I'm a little worried about running with the phone. Will the constant up-and-down impact of me running hurt the phone in anyway? I just don't want to hurt my new phone :-)

Best AnswerThe up and down impact shouldn't hurt the phone in anyway but if you are still worried buy an Armband for the iphone 4, this will ensure the iphone isn't thrown about in your pocket when running and doesn't seem to pull your ear phones out as much.

If the latest Nano already has an accelerometer (pedometer feature), then what extra benefit does this Nike sensor provide? Heart rate??
Nike sensor seems to be redundant with Nano pedometer feature.

Best AnswerNo, not heart rate. There are some gym machines that have a 30pin output which is iPod/Apple compatable, but not many. The Nano's built-in pedometer really only counts steps although it does it wil an accelerometer (which is pretty neat- most pedometers are much more crude). The Nike sensor and asociated software is able to analyse distance NOT by asking you to enter pace-length but by analysing accelerometer data and deriving steps/distance/pace from that. That's also why it needs to go on your shoe- it needs arc information to do all this fun stuff.

Best AnswerIt depends on what ipod you will be using more recent ipods have it bulit in but if you have an older modelyou will meed a sensor. check inside your shoe (under the insret as well to make sure you dont need the sensor)

Best AnswerI found out the answer myself. My question was related to the 5G Nano which I already knew had a built in receiver (so I don't need a receiver). But as the 5G Nano also has a built in accelerometer that can act as a pedometer (from the Apple web site), I also knew that the 5G Nano with NO OTHER ATTACHMENTS can track steps. So my original question was "Do I need the Nike+ sensor with the 5G Nano?"
I've since found out that although the built in pedometer can track steps, it doesn't track forward motion (just up and down), so it can't keep track of distance. If the Nike+ sensor is used in a shoe (and calibrated correctly) it can track distance.
So the answer to my question is "perhaps". Anyway, I've bought the Nike+ sensor and I'll give it a try.- Answered by Steve N from Toronto
