Apple reckon over a thousand hours of active use, here is the article number for the information 303985. I think it isn't very economical that you cannot recharge the sensor, i do know if you use a small saw/knife and cut the sensor open you can replace the CR2032 battery and re glue the case back together.

No, the sensor is made for use during walking/running. Cycling and elyptical trainers will not be accurate.

Yes you do. I'm sure you understand that this device is not compatable with other MP3 players, but I think your question was more to understand whether the sensor can dump the data to your iPod (or whatever) at the end of the run, leaving you free to use whichever MP3 device you choose. The answer is no. The device is just a little transmitting accelerometer, and it just sends real-time movement information to the iPod, and stores nothing.

How far can the sensor be from your ipod? Could i leave it in my backpack while walking around the school? Cuz we're not allowed to be carrying ipods or other electronics around. What do i do at school?

just get it all set up and leave your ipod in your pocket, no need for music to be playing, just connect the sensor and leave the ipod on while in hold mode in any pocket, ipod are all ever so thin and 'small' besides the classic so you shouldn't be noticed.

The sensor works with the 3rd and 2nd GEN ipod touch only!! It is not compatible with the 1st GEN!!!
